When will someone come out with a battery backpack for the Razr?

I think Verizon sales battery powered chargers. I forgot the name, but I think they have two different kinds. You may call and ask.

There are a number of different external battery packs available that will work with the Droid Razr. At present I own two manufactured by a company called ANKER.

The ones sold by verizon are quite small (1600mha) - reading reviews some folks have complained about the igo branded battery not working well witht he razr; the other is made by motorolla (anandtech review of the razr tested this battery pack).

There are several on amazon for the same price ($40) as the ones above; that are 3 times larger. From the reviews it looks like Anker Astro 5600mAh is the best bet - and several forum members have commented with postivie results for this product.

Caveat; I do not own the Anker battery pack (I might in the future); I have no idea if it has long term issues (what kind of battery it uses and how quickly it will fail over time - either fail to obtain full charge or fail to deliver proper power).

Anker 3200mAh External Battery for Motorola Verizon Droid 2/X/X2/Bionic/Razr

I have a question though, will this actually charge the battery or only allow the phone to pull a charge and operate while connected?

Only $22

One big con of a sealed battery is if you have a bad one...gotta send in the whole phone, maybe replace the whole phone.

That said...I think the RAZR has nice battery life. So much that I dont really use Smart Actions for disabling data unless I'm at work now. I dont even bother with the screen off SA anymore.

The external battery will charge the internal battery... and allow the handset to operate while the internal battery is charging.
