Where are app settings stored?

I'm using a mobile TV dongle from Elgato with my Tablet (Hudl) running Android 4.2.2. The dongle comes with its own app to watch TV on the tablet.

After the app performs a channel scan it seems to store the list of TV channels and various settings locally on the tablet.

I'd like to make a tweak to the channel list by manually editing some of the stored data, because there isn't a facility to do this in the app. If I'm lucky it might be stored as XML and easily editable!

The app seems to store a scan log file and a cache of the program-guide in a file in

/sdcard/Android/data/com.elgato.eyetv.w/files

but there doesn't seem to be channel list, channel order, or the various settings stored anywhere under com.elgato.eyetv.w

I have hunted elsewhere but so far not found any other place where the app could be storing this info.

Can anyone suggest where else I could look ?

You can use something like SQLite Editor to edit a SQLite database - but you could also royally break stuff, so be careful ;)

You'll most likely need to look in /data/data/com.application.name/databases for a *.db file.

If so I guess I won't be able easily to change anything.

Where is SQLite likely to store its data - in its own data directory or an app-specific directory? And where would this be?

App specific. Sqlite is built into android and available to all apps to help them manage their own data (in their own data directory).

Thanks, but "/data" is empty on my Hudl tablet. As I mentioned earlier there is an application specific directory in

/sdcard/Android/data/com.elgato.eyetv.w

It does contain an SQL file for the program guide cache, but nothing in that directory is updated when you change settings in the app - but the app still manages to remember the changes so must be saving them somewhere else.

Actually on closer looking, the contents of directories under /sdcard are different depending on which user you are logged into (Hudl allows a main user and a secondary user). For example the directories for media files, downloads etc are under "/sdcard/Android" and their contents differ between the 2 users even though the absolute pathname (as viewed in ES File Explorer with show hidden files selected) is the same. The 2 users can install apps independently so the contents of /sdcard/Android/data also differ.

There's obviously something about the way the filesystem works for different users that I don't understand - is there an explanation of this somewhere?

/data isn't really empty. But you need to be rooted (software hacked to give you administrator access) to access files in there, so without root your file browser won't show you anything.

Android tablets do allow different profiles for different users, but as I've never played with this I can't really say anything about how it works.
