Help Where are my whatsapp messages/data?

Von Erik

Lurker
Bluestacks suddenly malfunctioned and kept displaying this message "Implementation of recipe on XDA Developers Forum for Android Market, Demonstrates how to implement APks. Please wait for a while for changes to take effect. The screen might go blank in between." Then will display a black screen for a moment then restarts to bluestacks home page. This will just repeat and will never end.

So, since i was using an old version (0.7.18.921) i uninstalled it and clicked "yes" when i was asked if i want to save my data. Then i installed the latest version (0.9.27.548) and it was running fine. But all my messages from whatsapp are gone and i didn't make a back up because when i was asked if i want to keep my data right before uninstalling my old version, i thought app messages are included and will be preserved too. Now i want to know if there's still a way to restore all my messages. Thank you. Really hoping for a reply. T_T

Well most of us will never have used Bluestacks. And I've also never installed WhatsApp, so am doubly blind.

It depends what data Bluestacks saved: just its own data or all apps? And does WhatsApp keep its messages in a folder on /sdcard or (more likely) as internal app data (/data/data area, which you need root to access)?

So, have you any way of seeing what Bluestacks saved? Otherwise all I can think of is seeing whether some file recovery software can retrieve the uninstalled version, but I think that's a long shot. But as I don't know what it's file structure is, what would have been removed and what left when you uninstalled, I can't do more than make generic guesses. I assume you have checked for any folders left behind by the older Bluestacks that might not have been picked up by the new one?

yes, i checked the folders in program files and they are worth almost 6gb in size, i'm assuming my data are still there but the new version won't read it and i don't know what to do with them. do you think a system restore will do any good? thanks for the reply!

Can anyone help?

I have no knowledge about Bluestacks, but as far as WhatsApp messages/data is concerned, although I don't use it myself I have transferred it from device to device for my wife and that involves copying the WhatsApp folder, which was located on the SD card on an HTC Desire S.

I'm not sure whether this will help you :(.

Good luck.

I have tried doing that and I managed to recover all my media files (sent/received photos, videos and audio files) but all of my contacts and messages are still missing. Can I still recover them? I read that whatsapp backs up your data automatically and stores it inside the whatsapp folder but I don't see anything else inside the said folder. Any ideas? Thanks!

Not knowing anything about Bluestacks and it's relationship with WhatsApp, the only thing I can suggest is to try the WhatsApp restore procedure as detailed here :-

Unfortunately, I have read all the FAQs in the whatsapp website and none of them really answered my question. My main question is; is there a way to recover your messages and contacts without the back up files located in sdcard/whatsapp/database? Because a back up means it's a copy of the original files, so what I really want to know is where are the original files (messages and contacts) stored before a back up is even performed. There's this program I read about called dr fone by wondershare and they say that it can indeed recover lost items without the back up files but it's a computer program and it will ask you to connect your phone to your pc to start the recovery operation. And since I'm using an android emulator called bluestacks, I really can't do that. So I want to know if there is also such an app that can do this when you're using an emulator and not an actual phone. By the way, thanks for taking your time to reply on my thread Mr. tommo47.
