Help Where are the gallery photos ?

Droid original rooted.

When I open up Gallery it displays two albums
1) Camera(57) photos
2) sdcard (3) photos.

I can view all 57 photos in the Camera album.

BUT, I cannot find them anywhere on the phone in the file system.

I have tried from a PC with USB connected.
I have tried using ASTRO
I have tried using Root Explorer.
I have tried copying the complete contents of the SD card to the pc
I have tried a few other apps like file explorer and quickpic with no luck.

Does anybody know where they can be found?

And please don't say DCIM/Camera folder. They are not there and I've tried looking in all directories for a different copy of the DCIM folder. I have only one and it resides on the removable SD card. As this is the most common answer given in all of the posts I've searched I wanted you to know I tried that already.

My goal is get them off of the phone and on to the pc.

U in the twilight zone bro lol. Use the.search feature of an app like es file explorer. Search for one of the pix by the name copied from the gallery. When es file explorer finds it, it will show the location
 
Yeah, I must be in the twilight zone with this phone.

I tried your suggestion already with Astro and Root Explorer and just to be sure I downloaded ES File Explorer. Searched for a specific file name of one of the pics in the gallery and it came up empty.

I'm thinking these gallery pics are somehow embedded in the gallery code which sounds impossible to me but these pics do not show up anywhere in a search.

Oh, and so you know I'm not a total newb, I tried the IMG* and *.jpg wildcard search with all three of the above mentioned apps and still nada.

Sorry my mistake. When you plug your phone into your computer do you have the option to import pictures pop up? Also while it is plugged in can you use windows to search your phone for the pictures? There is somewhere else that the pics are stored but I have to remember where.
