Where did my music go?

It's been a while since I uploaded some newer music on my phone through my laptop. I used to be able to go into the whole library and remove and add files at will. Where did my music files go on Kit Kat? Please don't tell me I need some iTunes type program now and sync this crap. I like my android to stay android.

Is your music on the external sd card? Either way, you might want to read this KitKat and SD cards — what's fixed, what's broken and what's misunderstood | Android Central. Im not sure. But maybe gm or stock samung music will allow you to write to it? I dont do much with music so im unsure. If your rooted. There is this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.geeksoft.extcardpatch&hl=en Other than that. Dont know. But now that I replied. Someone may give you more info. Welcome to kk...

Not rooted and I don't use an SD card either. I know my music used o be in the DCIM folder if I remember correctly. Now I can't even search on the laptop folder for a known song, it comes back empty but I know the music is on the phone because I listen to some of the 800 songs I have at the gym every day

I see. It is of course due to kk still. Your right. Your music is still there. Depending upon which app you use for music...they may be in its folder. This link will explain it better than I can -http://www.doubletwist.com/help/question/what-are-the-changes-to-sd-card-support-in-android-44-kitkat/

One of the things I loved about Android and absolutely hated about iPhones are the use of iTunes to add movies and music and having to sync everything. Drag and dropping into a folder from my laptop or computer was a big seling feature. Am I supposed to now use a program like iTunes now with my android? If so what? And If so, I'm not happy about it.\

No you're not. I'm still not using any program to manage my Note 2 other than Windows Explorer.

Not sure exactly what you are trying to do, but why is the music in the DCIM folder in the first place? That folder is supposed to be for the camera.
