Help Where Did The Credit Go?

I'm new here, and I'm new to mobile phones.
I bought an Orange San Francisco, eventually changed it to a Tesco pay as you go sim.
I put
 
snartphones use data w/out asking
Settings>Wireless>Mobile Networks>Data Enabled

Tesco have very pricey data

Hi, I had same problem just before Christmas. When using wi-fi the San Fransisco defaults to using GSM unless you switch off Data Connection in Settings/Wireless & networks/Mobil networks/Data connection. In addition the phone regularly self connects throughout the day draining away your credit. Consequently after losing
 
To be fair, you really shouldn't have a smart phone without some sort of data plan / package / bolt-on. Without one, you can be paying anything upto
 
treat it to a web add on every month. will probably only set you back a tenner. switching off the data access will only remove all of the clever features you wanted in the first place.
