Where do ringtone files go?

I saw on the SD card where I place notifications and have been able to get the phone to recognize the .m4a files. Where and what format do you use for ringtones?

Anyone?
 
Create a folder in your SD & name it "Ringtones". There might already be a folder named ringtones so you can just put your ringtones in there & then they should show up with the default ringtones.
 
I have a folder on my sd card that I created and named ringtones. I moved all my ringtones to it from my old phone, but when I long hold a soundboard clip it doesn't show up anywhere on my card. The only way to access it is through sound and display/ringtone/then scroll though a ton of ringers to find what you want. Is there anyway to clean this up?
