where do the "system messages" go?

Hi

I have the following problem:

To access a VPN I enter a username/password on a website and then get sent a "System Message" on my HTC Hero with a token number. This is not an SMS, it is just a popup window with the number and an "OK" button.

Problem is, if i flip to another screen or just fumble a bit around, or my htc screen has gone black and I have to wake it up, i loose the token.

Of course, I could jut reenter username/password and get sent another token, but is there a way to recover the sent ones?

Just wondering...
