Where does barcode scanner app get its info?

Where does the barcode scanner app pull its data from? We're trying to inventory our bar at home (it's a substantial hobby, what can I say) and a surprisingly large portion of the bottles we're scanning are coming up empty for info. I'm just wondering what db it pulls from, and if there's any way to update it?

That depends also on the country you are living. In Mexico for example most of the barcodes are not found. Also on the imported products the barcodes are mostly replaced by the stores for their own use.

Right - that's why I'm wondering what db the info comes from. It seems to be pretty US-centric, and I'm wondering if it can be supplemented at all for non-US items.
