Where Does the Tea Party Come From?

Tea Party is not for the most part composed of non-partisan political newcomers who were radicalized by the poor economy and the expansion of government. In fact, Tea Party supporters were for the most part activist Republicans well before both the financial crisis and before Obama

Meanwhile the President's approval rating hits a new low of 38%. Here's a hint, no one in Washington, except for a very small minority, want to actually fix the economy.

I think everyone in Washington would like to fix the economy but you have a small minority being sponsored by billionaires that would like to do it without concerns of how it would effect most people in this country

If only it were a small minority.

That small minority includes about 500 people in congress and the President.

There is only 1 way to fix this problem and it will involve lots of pain. Politicians don't have the nerve to tell you the truth and risk their own re-elections.

Maybe they do want to fix the economy, but they are the clueless ones who got us into this mess, so I'm sure they have all the answers. Let me ask you, how can the gov't fix this problem?? The answer does not involve billionaires.

this. A lot of programs and stuff needs to be slashed and burned. On the other hand, some programs do need to be enforced heavily. Obama care was one of them.

I mean people got pissed at Obama for wanting to get rid of Medicare and Medicaid corruption and waste. LOL. come on... we all know those two programs are extremely inefficient.

Ofc, Obama will never tackle this issue. He will also never tackle the Wellfare and Unemployment benefit abuse issues either.

My parents own a small business and they literally CANNOT FIND WORKERS... Sure we get couple people for interview, but they tell us NOT to hire them. LoL. they say they still have couple years left on wellfare and shit.

But lets face it, if Obama or any other politician did bring the issue, the opposition will try to abuse the sh*t out of it and people will buy it.For example, if someone tackles the Wellfare issue, they will say "Obama is trying to take money away from poor people". Just like they did with Obama trying to fix medicare. There were tons of "Obama is trying to take money away from helpless old people"

/rant.

I do believe US is the greatest country, but i sometimes wonder how long it will remain so...

Politicians were willing to slash program funding, as long as they're the programs supported by their opponents across the political aisle.

That's the issue these days, which is not new but has become vehemently polarized in recent years.

That's a bad sign. A very bad sign, as it often is one of the first dominoes to fall in the collapse of a once viable, successful economic/political system.

Once the work stops being done to fix things in the infrastructure, no matter the reason, it could be a nuclear war or it could be a flu epidemic or it could be stubborn billionaire politicians, the result will likely be the same: accelerating collapse of the system and vulnerability of the population at large to all the nightmares the former healthy system kept at bay.

i dont think US will collapse anytime soon... Despite what many many people say, US is pretty healthy.

However, i do agree that there are many problems rising from further polarization. And it prob has to do with us having black president. Its sad, but some republicans/tea parties are opposiing him no matter what and take in most BS shit.

Having said that, polarization is also caused by way the system works. Political analysts have been saying this a while now, but we will never have truly efficient system with what we have. and it has gotten worse recently...

Where are your parents located? If it's reasonable pay for reasonable work I'm interested.

Not unless those of us who were fortunate enough to inherent the greatest country on the face of the earth put some work into keeping it that way. We're enough generations removed from knowing what it was like to fight for freedom and die for a cause that we've become apathetic and believe it will always be there. It won't. There's nothing that separates us from all the great dynasties of the past to believe it won't happen to us. There's a reason why our founding fathers specifically stated that it was EVERY individual's duty to hold this government accountable to the people by ANY means necessary. I wonder if there are enough brave men and women left in this great nation who will take a stand for what is right to make a difference.

Our system isn't terribly efficient BY DESIGN! People don't seem to grasp that all the checks & balances are in place to actually prevent our government from enacting laws. I know that's a crazy thought to people these days but this country was actually founded with a core set of principles that, aside from a select few changes, would still work fine today. Now they want a 'super senate' and all this other bull crap to supposedly stream line the government when it was originally designed to be anything but streamlined. It sickens me that people actually want to allow our government to be able to create more laws at an even faster rate. If there's anything this country needs it's more laws being created at an even faster rate. The last thing we need is more laws being created taking advantage of mass hysteria and fear produced by the very government trying to 'stream line' the process. They're chipping away out our freedoms one stupid law at a time in the name of security and I feel less safe now than I did before 9/11. Wake up people!

The healthiest portions of the U.S. economic system are being trashed by the unhealthiest portions of the U.S. political system.

When we go outside, to work or whatever, we do see the world going on as usual. But too large a part of all of it now is propped up by borrowed money and the "fake money" we call credit. Way, way out of hand, and I remember Bill Clinton bringing it up a long time ago.

The hope is that the elected goofs finally do begin to understand that not just their re-elections are at stake, but their wealth, if things continue as they are. Then, and only then will they get together and do something about it. Hopefully whatever it is they do will have a positive effect on non-wealthy Americans as well.

I was talking about how people are voted and how all states have equal powers in senate and stuff. It simply makes no sense that New york has same representation and rights as Idaho. If you think about it, that tells us that people of New York has less rights and representation per person. and gives us less way less options on representing our needs.

And another thing is the party systems we have today. it just naturally brings two sides further. While most of my beliefs are conservative(smaller gov. lower debt. lower amount of regulation, but strong science programs), i cant stand republicans and tea parties. I still dont understand how can they defend tax loop holes(from recent debt ceiling negotiation) and get away with it. I mean not only they stopped taxes on the riches, they stopped obama from closing the loop holes in the tax system. i mean wtf??

now if there is a conservative party who follows their conservative beliefs without all this BS, i am all for it.

Edit- my parents store is located in long island and most non skilled workers starts at minimum wage like all grocery stores. no use now though since we are selling it.

Despite the mass hysteria, a lot of economists from reputable insitutions say that debt isn't really that big of a problem. We easily have other more important problems. And contrary to popular belief, Chinese do not own us. Their debt only make up of about 10 percent of total debt. What people get confused about is that Chinese debt is 40 percent of FOREIGN debts not total.

Most of our debts are owed internally. We most of our debt to american banks. but we do have a f*cked up system where middle class is screwed the most.

It's all theater designed to mask other agendas.

If socialism is what one wants there are plenty of places to find it and, if I'm not mistaken, it's not working so well there either other than for the select few at the top.

The republicans know only one thing. If they don't destroy this before 2011, they will not keep the house in 2012. The democrats have beat them silly on every front in the last 2 years.

The only way for them to win, is to destroy the economy, which is why we see them playing games in washington. They forced the last quarter gdp growth rate because they would not increase taxes on the rich.

But make no mistake, the reduction in production of the united states was not because of the chaos of washington, but because there was no balance approached to the budget. That including budget cuts and tax increases.

As I have said before, and will say again. Why do the top 1% pay less then almost any other group of people. Google warren buffet and tax breaks. He only pays 15% in income taxes, while the 30 some people in his office pay 30% to 45% in income taxes.

I do not even know where to start with that comment.

Ok, how about this.

Pensions (socialism) $0.8 trillion
Health Care (socialism) $0.9 trillion
Education (socialism) $0.1 trillion
Defense (socialism) $1.0 trillion
Welfare (socialism) $0.5 trillion

total $3.3 trillion dollars

Total budget for 2011, $3.8 trillion dollars. Show we a country that spends 3.3 trillion dollars a year on socialistic programs.

Bottom line, we are the largest socialistic state in the world, and we should be. We have the highest amount of wealth. Socialism is a great thing. You went to school because of socialism. You eat wonderful food because of socialism. The commies are not knocking on your door, because of socialism.

That's one agenda. The agenda behind that one is to privatize (profitize?) medicare and social security or eliminate them entirely to further reduce the ever-shrinking tax liability of the rich.

There are lots of levels here, all being played out loudly through the corporate media megaphone with disinformation, misdirection and every kind of propaganda you've ever heard of and many you haven't.

Where exactly is "there"? Here and every other first world industrialized nation is socialized so where is that place you speak of?

There are many things wrong with this concept, the largest problem being the Constitution. There is no authority for all this gov't largesse.
