where has space gone in a new device connecting to computer

I am using a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4. I connected device via USB cable to Windows 8 Computer.
I see my device under my computer folders section.
It shows as follows
This PC--> SM-T231 --> Tablet
---> card

In Tablet it shows 1.67 GB free of 4.82 GB
and Card it shows 7.09 GB free of 7.39 GB
I checked each folder inside Tablet section and I am unable to find out where has the space gone.
I don't use so I want to know where has the space in Tablet Gone.
Following is list of folders in Tablet Folder

Sum total of space of all folders above comes
190 Mb + 2 Mb +10 Mb + 1.74 Mb + 115 Mb +20 Mb = 338.74 Mb

+790 Kb +18 Kb + 86 Kb + 442 Kb + +172 Kb +169 Kb+4 Kb = 1681Kb = 1.64 Mb
which becomes 338.74 Mb +1.64 Mb = 340.38 Mb

so on 4 GB device only 340 Mb is utilized as per above data but still on connecting it to a computer it shows
1.67 GB free of 4.82 GB so where has all the space gone? I have uploaded images also as how this appears when connecting with my PC. Let me know where is this space ?I am a newbie to android world.

Hello and welcome bhairavnath
Well, my guess would be that the "missing" memory is taken up by the OS itself and therefore not listed.


By the way, I've moved your thread into the Tab 4 forum

Look under Settings, General , Storage. You should see System Memory, around 4 Gb?

Try Terminal Emulator, free in the Play Store, and enter this command -

df

If supported, it will show actual usage on each of your partitions - something that connecting to a pc or using built-in tools can't do.

You're going to have a fair amount set aside to /system where Android itself is, and your apps and data will mostly be under /data.
