Where the Sense UI is going...

I thought this was very interesting to see. Due to resolution issues, I bet this would be difficult to port to the Eris from the Desire, but who knows? stranger things have happened!

I'm curious to hear what everyone thinks of this...

Thanks to XDA member DarkStone, HD2 owners now have a beta ROM of the HTC Desire HD that was announced along with the HTC Desire Z last week. During the event in London, HTC unveiled their new HTC Sense, which is a much more enhanced version of their UI, that packs some pretty interesting features. We have provided some screenshots from DarkStone

I don't think resolution would be the big problem here. I think hardware will be more of an issue than anything else.

Getting Sense (or any manufacturers UI overlay) is like getting a Cable or Satellite package, you get a lot of things you want and a whole bunch of stuff you care nothing about. I like some of the new features they are showing, but I wish HTC would allow things to be more selectable. If you want Stocks, Peep, Footprints or the new Reader then you should be able to download them and install them. If you don't wan them then they shouldn't be on the phone at all.

Since I have been without Sense for a little while now, I'm not too sure I'd be willing to go back. As long as Launcher Pro is still available and working well, I stick with stock.

Custom skins is a nice touch, and the ability to backup without rooting your phone is nice for people who aren't willing or don't want to take that plunge.

Android is great in that it allows people to easily jump from one device to another without a UI learning curve. The downside is that what makes us want one device other another when they all act the same? Sense gives HTC a leg up there and gives us a more unique experience and it's good to see they aren't being complacent. I think where Sense really shines though is its syncing and menu layout. Things seem easier through it. I would be interested to see how they improved that.

*edit on the comment what makes us want one device over another... I'm aware that hardware and phone design play a big part too, i'm just implying that basically android is android...
