where to get free apps? (legally)

i think the title might be misleading, but anyway

i live in south korea and i've found that the version of the market i get here doesn't give me access to a lot of apps i see people talking about, free or paid.

i know i can just download apk files and install them, but my question is... where?

what site can i find that has all these free apps available for download where i don't have to use the market?

just once more to clarify - not looking for pirated apps. just looking to download the free apps people of the western world have access to that i don't.

note - not looking to root my phone to access market enabler. just looking for a website where i can get these free apps from.

Be careful as this is precisely how you can get stuck with some nefarious piece of code.
As to sites, I have none as I use the market exclusively.
Amazon work for you?

If you have a rooted phone, you can use Market Enabler to get access to more apps using the standard Android market.
