Root Where to start?

As the title states I am not exactly sure where to start. I want to root my phone but I'm not sure which way of doing this is the most recent. I guess in terms of newest and most recommend rom I should use for my device. (I don't think the one I download includes any rom) As well as the most recent kernal that will work for my phone. I do have one process that I downloaded from July 2014. Which includes the root, cwm recovery, and kernal (I believe this is overclocked too).

Also, when I use the cwm recovery, does this revert back to exactly the way it was before doing everthing above or it go back to stock. I would prefer that doesn't happen. So, i'm hoping I can get some guidance regarding this. It would be much appreciated.

It will not revert unless u flash the stock recovery and ROM the awe l ROM which there is two the first one will flash with stock and install custum recovery if u have any more questions we that are still here will help good people here

Hmm... So when you flash with stock that doesn't mean you are just backing up stock settings? Also, the rom thing, why 2? I'm not sure what you mean by that.

You say 1 rom which there is two? what? Then you specify the first one will flash stock and install custom recovery.

That is the part that is confusing me. I wondering if it would just be easier to use one of the different software's available that will back up the settings. Though, I know some you have to be rooted and some don't. I just want to make sure if I have to restore my phone that it is exactly the way it is now.

The first one will in stall a costume ROM and recovery then u can go from there

I think what he is trying to say is that the easiest method for you might be following the instructions for the "L" Awe v.2.5 Final ROM. This will install a custom recovery (TWRP) which is needed to install custom ROMs and the "L Awe" ROM, which is stock based (meaning based off the stock android 4.2.1, as well as the stock kernel, I believe). Which ROM is "best" really is subjective, as they all contain different features. The Kit Kat (4.4.4) ROMs all run quite well, from my experience, the only issue being that the stock android camera app crashes and you need to use a 3rd party app. Some people say that video works, but on these ROMs all of the apps I have tried crash at some point while recording video. For this reason I'm using one of the stock based ROMs until it gets fixed (I might play with CM11 since people are saying they can get it to work). Let me know if you have any other questions!
