Where's my phone?

As regular readers may remember, I ordered a Motorola Moto G Stylus online from wadmart. This was on the 17th of September. It was supposed to have arrived by the 23rd. Instead they kept saying that it was delayed. I got in touch with somebody by email, and I was told that the best thing to do was cancel the order and reinstate it. The website says there was a request for cancellation on October 4th and they would email me if it worked. Here it is almost a month later and I still haven't gotten any other word from them. I have given them 2 days (1 now) before I contact the Better Business Bureau. Is there anything else I can do about it?

Sometimes the manufacturer is overwhelmed by a product that is in high demand, you have to be patient sometimes, and try to invest of shopping in stores :)

I had considered going there physically but since I have tried on numerous occasions with no luck I decided to go for the remote option. Boy was I wrong. If only I had traveled hundreds of miles to as many of their stores, I might at this very moment have been the proud owner of that phone. If they had it in stock I would of course not have been able to afford it. I don't know if it makes any difference that I paid by gift card.

That sucks so much... :(

Can't positively help, but have you re - ordered it because the cancellation was in the system, or you are waiting for a refund to the card before reordering. Mostly just curious. I used an electronic gift card after holding it for 4 months to buy a pc.

I see Motorola US put the Stylus 2021 on sale **/ reduction also on the 4th of this month; so stocks probably down by now. ** [edit]

I would just get the refund and not expect another one from Walmart.

Yes, but how do I get the refund? The only way I could afford this WAS with gift cards. They are WADMART gift cards.

Yes I do but I figure they deserve that name because of how godawful they are. Have you ever looked in on their complaint department? Most of the problems are mentioned by customers but at least one employee has taken them to task. How'd you like to be the only one working in the deli while everybody else who's supposed to is God knows where? I ended up giving them some feedback as well as a bad review, but I don't know if that's enough. How do I get them to send the darn thing or else reload the gift cards? I'm out almost $200 right now. It's time for wadmart to @$$_ or get off the pot.

You could go to a local walmart customer service desk with your documentation to get the refund squared up. Once that is done, order it "ship to store" which they will usually do for free over $35 (I think) which that should certainly be.

Alternatively, if this is through a 3rd party seller, they may only be able to help with the refund.

No, it's directly from them. This would be just the sort of thing I hoped to avoid by getting it online, but I can see I was mistaken. I have gotten really tired of playing almost literal telephone tag (no phone when I could pay, available when I can't). Did O. Henry write one about this?

Yes, I had to learn the hardway to NEVER, EVER pre-pay for any goods or services from anybody.

Jobs, products, and services are to be paid for upon receipt.
No exceptions.

When you pay for stuff on Amazon with a credit card, for example, you have recourse with the seller, Amazon, and even your credit card company if it has to go that far.

I have some good news at last on this front. Walmart has finally canceled the order. Now all I have to do is reorder it. I might do that all around town physical thing but I have virtually no transportation and a lot of other things to do. Therefore, I'm going to give them one last chance to get it right. Send it again and if it still doesn't work I guess I'll have to go there myself and hope it's ACTUALLY available.

I hadn't noticed that. I was looking at the "my orders" department and trying to figure out how to reorder. I ended up by replying to the email, "thanking" them for getting around to canceling my order 11 days after I asked them to and wondering how I could finish the job.

Ok, I reordered and it LOOKS good. The phone's supposed to arrive today. When I get it and set it up, I want to make sure it's protected from googoo and all the rest. I have No Root Firewall (praise be for its existence and why didn't I find out about it the first second) on sd. How do I make sure that it'll be working the moment I fire up the thing? Is there anything else I should know about it?

Be sure that you install the SD first thing, before you ever turn it on.
Don't bother putting the SIM in yet, that can wait.

DO NOT allow the device to connect to any internet- wi-fi or cellular- until you have denied adding a Google account AND skipped all of the set up malarky.

Install NoRoot with the built in file manager.
Hopefully this will be the only time you need the stock file manager, but you will need to allow 'install apps' permission.
Just remember to revoke this permission after you have installed a better file manager.

Set up NoRoot immediately after installation.
If you block as much crap as I do, then no junk should download to your device when the internet is finally accessed.

Especially Google Play Services, Google, Google Play Store, and Google Services Framework.

Personally, on my last setup, I denied all permissions, disabled, and prevented anything Google from doing anything before I turned the internet on for the device.

Keep in mind that your device will be different without these, and so you will need different tactics to use it.

It will also be markedly faster and better on battery life than the same make and model with all that junk running all the time.

It arrived a day late, but better than never (off by about a month). Now it turns out this thing is locked by the carrier. I don't what this has to do with putting a sim card in it. The phone does have one but I don't want it, just wifi. I consider myself lucky to have put the SD card in the crummy "tray" at all. I guess it's properly installed. How do I get around this bs, and fast?

Why is it locked from the carrier?

I thought you were getting an unlocked device.

No matter, if only used on wi-fi- just ignore and back-arrow out of all set-up gobbledygook until you have NoRoot up and running.

Be sure to set 'Always on VPN' and 'Block connections without VPN'.

I looked up those tricks such as emergency call ##778. I did that more than once but I don't know how to change some code after that. All it did was sit there until I pressed the green call symbol and it said it wasn't an emergency number.

I thought it was unlocked too. I have gotten phones from them before without this bull. I don't know why this one's wrong. Anyway, the advice you have given seems unfortunately useless at this point. Perhaps a few shots taken from this Moto G Play will show what I mean.

What is ##778?
These codes are worthless to me because I don't even use the stock dialer app.

I don't understand the troubles you are having, as I have bought and used both locked and unlocked phones from there.

An unlocked device comes with no carrier bloatware, and can be used with various carriers.
A locked device is to be used on a single carrier and has proprietary bloatware installed.

You have not stated what happened when you inserted the SD card and first turned it on.

It is imperitive that the device is not allowed to connect to the internet before the firewall is installed.
Simply turn on Airplane Mode.
Refuse any prompts to allow any connection.

A Google account is to be avoided if the device is to be a no-Google device.

The initial set up crap is to lul you into allowing tons of junk to be downloaded onto the device.

Deny, deny, deny!
Press the Home key repeatedly until you get the stock Home page.
Be ready for it to ask you "Are you sure?" and to say, "Set-up is not complete." a few times before the Home screen appears.

From there go to the file manager and install the firewall.

No SIM card, or a code either, is required to make an emergency call.

Emergency calls are by law required to be available from even locked phones found on the street.

Keep in mind, that this is only for the emergency number that is used in your area- for the USA, that would be 911.

My problem is I can't get that far. The pictures I posted, which were taken from another phone, show the screens I get. I can't go past them, apparently. I don't know what else to do. There's a cricket store I suppose I could take it to but they probably wouldn't help because it's not theirs and most likely they wouldn't know how anyway. Cricket actually used to have great customer service with knowledgeable people but that's suffered greatly since the slimy at&t bought them. I wish I KNEW someone local I could consult about this. Of course I don't. You've been very helpful but I guess I can't get past those crappy screens. Maybe I should try calling Walmart and/or Motorola and demand to have the problem fixed.

Because the unit is out of the box your remedies are severely limited.

I have no idea what you want from Cricket, as the device is not theirs, nor are they the carrier, nor did they have anything to do with it.

Once the device is out of the box, an exchange for an identical item is your only remedy.

How much did you give for this device, anyway?
