Where's the alphabets

Hi, does anyone run into this situation, where the alphabets on the number pad does not appear after you have place a phone call and then are asked to make selection (i.e., calling your local mobile operator for inquiry). Is it a bug that is known? I only see numbers, when when asked to input the person's lastname, I would have problems remember what numbers corresponds to which letters. Many thanks.
