Whey protein?

I am just starting to get into shape and one of the guys I work with was telling me about whey protein. I was wondering if anyone here takes it and if you do what brand and flavor do you take? I am trying to figure out what to try. Are you having good or bad results with it?

For best result, consult a nutritionist. But if you got time and money, experiment with some different brands and products. Some products don't work for some people. Some products works well while others will work better. Depends on your diet, weight, climate, environment, stress level, and how your body reacts to chemicals/protein.

PS. I would recommend anything Muscletech branded

I wouldn't recommend them for weight loss. I've tried them in the past & they don't work @ all. For protein, my personal trainer recommends lots of egg whites, chicken or turkey breast, fish, spinach, & even natural peanut butter.

I've used it as supplementation to get my protein intake higher. I assume you are trying to gain lean mass? A good guideline is to take your lean mass weight in Lbs (assuming you're in the US; I don't have the kg conversion offhand) and eat that much protein in grams.

So... if you weigh 150lbs and you are 10% body fat, that means 15lb is fat. The rest (135lb) is your lean mass weight. So you should eat 135g of protein a day.

It's preferable to get your protein from natural sources. And you want to make sure you get some protein in every 4 hours. So smaller, more frequent meals is better. Of course if your schedule doesn't permit that, or you just can't stand eating any more chicken, etc, use the whey to supplement.

I typically used the whey in a 4:1 carb-protein ratio for a recovery drink after my workouts.

I stuck with GNC-brand whey. Banana Creme tastes the most natural with milk IMO.

In the end, remember that hard work and good nutrition make more difference than the brand of whey you get. Don't get too caught up on the details. You can gain good mass without whey supplementation as well.

I was motivated to join this forum because my music is a big part of my activity level enjoyment. Working in fitness for a chunk of my life I hope this is a way I can prove helpful to give back help I find on this site.

To the point of the protein you speak of. I have a limited diet tolerance and if I don't get enough protein I get distracting urges to snack all day. I need a shake to supplement my diet. Sometimes as a breakfast or lunch replacement, sometimes I add a little in a fruit blend or something for a dessert.

I use Isopure zero carb and designer whey brands
Chocolate I blend with ice cubes and unsweetened almond milk, vanilla I typically add fruit but not always. In a pinch I can mix up either of these with unsweetened almond milk in a shaker and drink as is.
I use to exclusively use a brand called synthrax nector .. but it got a little pricey for me.

Sometimes I use Jarrow rice protein with a banana and unsweetened almond milk for a dessert type drink. I just bought life basics plant protein to give a try also.
In addition, I take digestive enzymes pre meals or shakes, Lglutamine after workouts of any kind, coq10 in the morning, and ZMA at night. I had to add glucosamine after a running injury to my tendons.

My personal goals are to have some energy and stamina, keep mindless snacking in check, and keep lean, strong muscle.

A little off topic but my biggest helps:
*I 2nd the hard work and general nutrition as a focus. Identify your strengths, weakness, and priorities. Remember them. Work with the strengths, address and plan for the weakness. (general rule of thumb for anything but also includes diet)
*What you don't put into your body is just as important. I personally have to eat like a diabetic, use gluten free alternatives like quinoa, and keep dairy to a low to feel my best. The better I eat, the less I have to eat, the better I feel, and the better the "good for me" food tastes.
*If there is a TV show you like, maybe it will help you get through 30 minutes on the cardio. If certain types of music make you feel great...listen to it no matter how cheesy or off the wall. If you like to swim..get a swim in. Etc.

Whey protein is good as a meal replacement, I use it to gain and maintain weight.
No offense to the other posters, but Muscle Tech is a joke on bodybuilding forums, so is GNC.
Their products are too expensive and no better than anything else.
You can find supplements online for a lot less than GNC and better products than muscle tech for less as well.

I am currently using BSN syntha 6 strawberry. It tastes really good with milk 200 calories per scoop and I think 22 or 24 grams of protein.

The most popular brand is Optimum nutrition, but I don't like the taste that much and it has fewer calories than syntha 6.

Look around online and find what best suits your needs to help you reach your goals.

Goto bodybuilding. Com you'll find alot better info there.

No, you won't, not on their forums. Bodybuilding.com has so many people who simply regurgitate bad info they've heard others say.
Not saying everyone is like that there, but a good deal of them have no idea what they're talking about. The articles on bodybuilding.com are fine though.

For a better place for the forums try anabolicminds or musculardevelopment.
