I'll keep my answer short, I would definitely go with the HTC desire
Why? The other device is an iPhone knock off, meaning if you run into any problems or need support, it's going to be very limited.
Not to mention, I'm almost sure there isn't going to be any development support for it either if you intend to be a root user.
Just did a search, AF nor XDA have a dedicated forum for the knock off device. As I go back to my statement, there's going to me no root development along if you should need support for it, support will be very limited.
