As the Galaxy S4 comes closer to availability, wondering what people are planning to do? I'm on Sprint, and am seriously debating which device I'll get. I'm eligible for an upgrade now, but am waiting for the S4 to be out, so I can compare that with the HTC One. Also there are rumors about Motorola X phone, a possible Nexus 5, and of course the Sony Experia.

Part of my concern is availability of Android updates, which is why I'm hesitant with HTC for now even though the device itself looks good. All CDMA carriers have to approve updates, and this is after the manufacturer updates it based on their UI overlay like Sense, this really delays the process and explains why currently Nexus 4 isn't on CDMA. But if a device didn't have a manufacturer overlay, then it would basically just be carrier approval/testing/tweaking, and that might make release time shorter.

Which device do you plan to wait for (assuming availability on Sprint)?

Galaxy S4, HTC One, Sony Xperia, Motorola X Phone, Nexus 5

I'm having a really tough time deciding. My wife is going to get the Galaxy S4, but I just can't decide. I'll either pickup the HTC One of Galaxy S4, I'm leaning towards the S4. Samsung has been good to me, my last two devices were both made by Samsung. (Galaxy Note and Nexus S.)

Yeah and the lack on info regarding any upcoming CDMA Nexus device, X Phone or Xperia also makes it difficult.

I'm for sure waiting until the S4 and HTC One are in stock, so I can play with both. However once they are both available, I'm hard pressed to decide if I should get one, or wait awhile longer until we know more about upcoming CDMA Nexus or X Phone.

Spec wise I think they'll all be pretty similar, my main concern is with speed of Android updates in the future.

I also see there is the new LG Optimus G Pro that is coming out on AT&T, soon to follow on other carriers as well.

Seems that just like me, He can never remember which letter Xperia is Sony's top of the line model.

I'm waiting for either the Samsung Mega 6.3 (to use as a small tablet) or the Note 3 (so I can grab a used 2 on the cheap). :D

Galaxy S4 for a number of reasons.

Just waiting patiently for release and proper reviews of the Exynos versions.

I'd like to piggy-back on this one, if I could...with a minor twist. I'm very seriously leaning toward replacing my POS Motorola photon with the S4 over the One, but the biggest selling point to me is Kies. I swear I don't wear a tin foil hat, but I've got a ton of sensitive information in my contacts and I've never felt comfortable going with a cloud-based sync solution to Outlook (I'm self employed, run a small business, and really don't want the hassle and expense of going to a hosted exchange server which would make this a non-issue). I was fully set to give a Q10 Crackberry another shot until I realized they too had eliminated USB sync capabilities...syncing contacts and appointments is a HUGE deal to me and I've tried multiple 3rd party applications that just didn't work - either didn't accurately sync all of the items or created duplicates or deleted items without me wanting to or all of the above...I'm not ruling out the possibility of user error, but the bottom line is I was not able to get it to work consistently and reliably.

I want to be able to sync my #$#ing contacts without having to send them to the cloud.

Is the S4 with Kies the best option for this, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks in advance for advice / opinions...

HTC has the HTC Sync program. I can be sure if they continue support for it though. Samsung would undoubtedly continue support because even their non Android phones interface through Kies.

I've never had any problems with my HTC phones, so I'm pretty loyal to them. Other than that, I'd give the Motorola a shot. Samsung doesn't impress me.

Im stuck between note 3, nexus 5 and s4. The problem is im with verizon and dont know if they will even offer the nexus 5? I have the galaxy nexus now and love it. It will be a tough decision for me.

The Note 3 and Nexus 5 doesn't even exist yet.

Not yet but they are coming out, since im with verizon do i buy s4 in 1.5 months or wait a couple more to see what the other two come up with. I like the galaxy nexus but looking forward to the added features of the new phones.

Its more than a couple of month's wait. Notes are announced September or October, and Nexus phones soon after. The Nexus devices expected on July are tablets. And if you wait that long, the S5 will be coming out on March/April 2014. I suggest just buy the best phone you can when you need one.

I will probably wait until mid summer, my buddy swears nexus will have a new phone beginning of summer. I didnt ask him were he heard that, he is on a bunch of different sites and may be wrong. I thought i had read that on this site also?

There's been speculation that a new Nexus will be announced at Google I/O, but no facts, not even reliable-sounding rumours. Personally I think it much more likely that they'll announce a refresh of the Nexus 7 than a new phone.

Actually today I've seen a believable rumour about Google I/O and phones. Not a new Nexus phone, but a refresh/spec bump of the Nexus 4 (storage and LTE mentioned).

Doesn't mean it's true, but to me it sounds more plausible than the N5 being announced next month with no leaks at all so far and only 6 months after the N4.
