Which ip is being used?

I use an Amazon firestick attached to a Roku tv (so I can use kodi). Both both connect to WiFi upon setup. When using firestick I'm not sure which connection is being used. If I install a VPN on the firestick, will it be effective or is the Roku tv ultimately supplying the connection?

By having your Amazon Fire TV Stick plugged into your Roku TV, all that's doing is giving the Fire TV Stick an HDMI port to display content, not receive it. As far as IP addresses, both your Fire TV stick and Roku TV are each given a unique IP address by your router, and both devices use their respective IP addresses independently, funneled through your router, then through your cable or DSL modem, to get Internet access to whatever online content you're then watching.
