which is better?

Hi all not sure if Im in the right forum but I was wondering if anyone knows if its better to change my charging port in the my samsung galaxy s3 or just buy a external battery charger with a extra battery? The price for the charging port is $50 so price wise its not that bad, and I know I can get the charger for the battery cheaper but its gonna be a pain to take off my cover and change the battery all the time. My only concern is could changing the port do any other damage to my phone. Not very tech savy so not sure if this concern is even valid. If anyone know please let me know Im having a hard time charging this phone Thanks

the OEM charger that came with the phone doesnt work anymore?

No.....ive bought and used several other chargers and it stops charging during the night.So ill plug it in at 90% and wake up and its at 50% because its stopped the charging process.Also I have to wiggle it to make it start working.
