Tablet size. HDs are wider than 1st or 2nd gen Kindles. The easiest way to tell if your Kindle is an HD is if you went to a store and compared the sizes of each model to the Kindle you own. If your your Kindle is wider, with wide side panels next to the screen, you own an HD.
