Root Which rom should i get?

Hi.

I have never rooted my android phones but my Galaxy young is kind of shitty and i was hoping that a new rom would make the phone a little bit faster, have a little bit more room for apps and some cool features.

But i have a problem rooting it because i can't figure out which rom i should get.
I saw that Cranium had one which was supposed to be kinda minimalistic and small but i have no idea to what i should refer that to.

Is there a different rom that somebody recommends?

I've just bought a pair of Samsung Galaxy Y GT-S5360 phones, my first Android phones.

I'm in the same position: which ROM? I guess I want something stable and up to date.
