Root which rom?

Hey y'all I am currently running gingerbread 2.3(something) and am fairly happy. However I see shots of homescreens with custom status bars and want peice of the action. My phone is rooted but running staock rom and a few root access apps....waste of root?

I want to get the full potential from my phone and consider my self a confident noob to root/flashing. I've heard a lot about cynagenmod and darky rom but wouldnt have a clue which to use or if there are any better ones out there. Time to ask the audience; your help would be greatly appreciated.

P.s as an ex Desire user im starting to miss the spelling capabilities of sense. 3 to 4 letters wrong in an 8 letter word and it still spells the word u want.... 2 strikes an i gotta hit delete with galaxy s :-( are there any good keyboards (tried better keyboard but i didnt like) or roms that can match the dictionary capabilities of sense?

THANKS for viewing but not commenting!

what made you choose darky over the other roms available... what were the key features that stood out? Always had a stock rom but need a change; cant find better keyboard on market trying out swype for a while until i find it.

Do i need custom rom to change battery/wifi indicators etc in notification bar?

Speed, visual appearance, available options (extended power menu, etc.), faboulous community, detailed information on everything ROM related, constant development... For me, I'd say, was the general feel of the ROM, it just works great and I feel as though I am using the full potential of my phone.

I think you need to have a deodexed ROM in order to flash themes and change UI elements.

I'm also using Darky's JVH v10.1 on Kernel Dark Core 2.4.

Must say the speed is fabulous and really it just works. Love the green taskbar. It does slow down a bit once you start installing stuff and it isn't fresh anymore but it's still much quicker than stock.

This rom combined with Launcher Pro Plus and IMHO you have the best setup although I can't rule out CM7 or any of the others as I haven't tried them.

The only problem I have is battery drain but that's because of something else and I don't really care coz I have a charger next to me 90% of the day.

My Quadrant score is 1566.
