Root Which tethering style is faster: Wired or wireless?

Nooski

Android Enthusiast
Just wondering. I'm using Wireless Tether (one with green icon) and it works, but I usually get 2 signal bars on my laptop.

Will a USB tether app work better? I'm aware of the extra software that I have to put on my laptop.

Thanks.

Installed software on laptop, installed app on phone. Still not working. Yes, I set debugging on.

pdanet right now. It worked with my prevail before, but now it no workie :(

Gonna try klink in a bit.

The free version of Klink doesn't allow you to access secure sites. Just a heads up.

I bought Klink before I rooted my Prevail because it doesn't even need root to access the internet. I use it now when I'm working on computers that do not have a wireless card and It has never once let me down. If you do decide to buy it , it'll be money well spent.

I just checked the market and I see that the paid version is $4.99. I got it when it first came out and only paid .99 cents but If I had to do it all over again knowing what I know now, I would pay the $4.99. There are apps out there that are free but I doubt that they are as easy to use as Klink.

You say that PDA.net will not connect? Did you install the drivers??

Yep i installed the drivers on my computer.

I don't use PDA. Net, just figured I'd ask.

I swear by Klink. The app has saved my butt on several occasions when working on pc's that didn't have a wireless card. It's very easy to use. Once you get it installed on the phone and pc, just start the app on the phone and open the app on the pc. It will connect quickly and then you're off to the races.

If I'm working on a pc without a working ethernet card or wireless card, I'll connect my phone to the wireless router, then connect Klink. The speeds are very good.

Wireless tethering is much faster than Klink. Just confirmed it through a speed test.

Have you tried connecting to a high speed wifi signal w/ the phone then cable tethering w/ Klink?:D Works great for pc's w/o wireless and is FAST.;)

Ya can't do that with wireless tether. :)

My laptop has a built-in wireless card. It would be kinda redundant to connect my phone to a wireless network, then tether to my laptop to phone.

I do quit a bit of repair work on PC's. Some are older and do not have wireless cards. Klink really comes in handy if a re-install needs to be done and then updates and drivers need to be installed. I connect my phone to the high speed wireless network then run Klink. It beats the heck outta the phones 3g any day of the week. :D

Also, sometimes even if a computer has a wireless card and you do a wipe, sometimes the drivers for the wireless card will still need to be downloaded and installed. The good thing about Klink is it comes with all of it's drivers. You wipe the computer then transfer Klink from the phone to the PC. Install Klink and download the wireless drivers needed and you're good2go.

It's just a handy app to have and I'm glad I bought it. OH, I only paid .99 cents for it too. It's quite a bit more expensive now. ;)
