Which VPN client?

[c_p_c]

So I'm in the process of trying to figure out what I need to do to be able to access my work files from home or while connected to work Wi-Fi. I'm on a nexus 7. I'm pretty sure I need to use a 3rd party VPN client, as I don't think the inbuilt VPN access in settings is compatible with our work server.
I've got the server address and password and my personal work login username and password, but what other info would be useful?
Also, once connected, how would I actually view and use files?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Do you know what they are using for the server?

Maybe the local subnet will be necessary, too, but that will depend on the client. You would use the files just as if they are on your local network.

I will try to find out, once back in work next week. Thanks

You should be fine with the built-in client unless your employer uses SSL eg Cisco AnyConnect, in which case you will need the dedicated client from Cisco and your employer will need to have the mobile licence pack.
Best bet is to get a member of the IT staff on-side as whilst setting up it's easy to lock out your own account
