which will be the true future phone which will allow us to choose OS

Very unlikely to happen with iOS, but I saw in the news before that there was a phone which allowed you to slot in 'OS Cartridges' to change OS', personally I'm all for Android and don't care too much for using more than one OS. What I really want is a phone specifically made for customizing, which isn't a nexus.

Kind of a weird place for this topic,

But I think we are far from that. First off, we would need these companies to openly embrace the use of their OS on an unapproved phone. We currently have a limited number of ports, but no company openly embraces this. They are at war with one-another, and their best defense currently is their OS.

I saw this too. This, I believe, is a concept idea, and not something that is actually being released 100%

I don't know about cartriges, but I have heard that someone over at Apple ported Froyo to the iPhone. I'm not sure if it's just a theme or what, but that might be what happens sooner or later. Some dev will make ROMs that are basically another OS... if that's posssible?

Of course it can't happen on a device like mine with a locked bootloader. But maybe a Nexus or something else could run it.

A locked bootloader destroys the greatest strength of android, it's customizability, I only hope companies learn this in the future.

HTC Tube Concept With Chargeable Cartridges
Cartridges allow you to swap between android and wp7. Just a concept though

N900 does not run Symbain (thank jebus), rather it runs Maemo5
You can also boot Android and MeeGo alongside Maemo, probably can triple boot

You're right, I meant Maemo, not Symbian. And yeah, they have it able to dual-boot to MeeGo, and some people triple boot into Android I'm sure. I know there where people doing the Maemo/Android dual-boot anyways.

Honestly, I'm not sure very many people would want this beyond developers. I could see the appeal to developers who want one device to test their apps on. The average person probably does not care. I find an OS I like. I then find hardware I like that runs it. I've never had an issue of liking an OS, but not being able to find decent hardware that runs it. Besides that, there are huge driver issues that would have to be overcome.

Why would anyone boot into MeeGo on purpose if they had Android to choose from?

The same reason people do a lot of things: because they can! They may not have a need for it, but they earn geek cred when they whip out their N900 at a LAN party and show everyone that they can boot it into 1 of 3 OS's! BAM, all the hot nerd chick action they can handle!
