Help White symbol with two arrows

What is the white circular symbol with two arrows in opposite directions that is right next to the 3G symbol at the top of the screen? I've seen it appear several times in the last day and it seems to coincide with a crazy drop in battery life (12 hours with minimal use).

It has something to do with signal/wifi.

that is the sync symbol. Means something is updating via network or updating such as facebook, myspace,gmail, or whatever. A good way to see the symbol is go into gmail hit menu then update. The sync symbol will activate as it syncs with gmail.

Ok, thanks, that is what I suspected but it is syncing a lot more than it did before so I suspect some app update is causing this behavior. My battery is now dying really fast, even if I let my phone sit idly. My battery fully drained in like 7 hours today as opposed to the usual 24+ hours.
