Who still visits this forum (in it's glory day's it sure was popular)

I just retired the old fella. Twas a valiant warrior. It has to be one of the toughest phones ever built. I had it unlocked, and now that I no longer am with Magenta, will still be able to use it as a backup.

I do. as of today, and introspection was not what I joined for. Should I exist, DO I exist, why....? wrong forum you guys, Philosophy is not a deep subject when 1 & 0 is the limit of your horizon, perhaps it should have a sub-sub off shoot.
While you ponder that can you assist in getting a new rom on to this here S.G.S.2 GT-l9100 [GSMH] using it's original EE software but network unlocked and rooted? thanks , if you can.

Let me get this straight you two are talking about routing a Samsung Galaxy S2??? I have to say that if you actually have a working S2 device I am impressed

While not totally sure you could call it "talking about" , Yes I am, a real SGS2,, a "GT-l9100 GSMH" no less . and the manner in which one flashes a totally new, OS.on to it. ie,total cleanout of original blotfulness down to the bios or its equivalent. followed by the instalation of a, yet to be decided upon, .....kernal?rom?OS? You got the goodies?

Have you rooted it, or more importantly installed a custom recovery? If you want to change what's in the stock software (referred to as a ROM) you need to do this.

If you don't know what I'm talking about the answer is "no", in which case the best you can do is reset it (after backing up anything important) and reflash the stock software (which you should be able to obtain from sammobile.com but please note that I'm not sure about network-branded firmware). But while that will be a clean install it will still have the manufacturers' bloat apps in it.

However, it may suffice for your purposes to disable pre-installed apps you don't want. That erases their data and updates and freezes the app (can't run, can't update, disappears from your app drawer). Technically the copy in the ROM is still installed, but as that lives in a different partition to your apps that makes no difference to you - you'd not gain any space if you could remove it. If the system. If the system won't let you disable or uninstall an app there are Samsung-specific app disabler apps in the play store.

As for rooting, that depends on the device and I don't know about Samsungs. One problem you may find with such an old device is that some of the tools and ROMs people used with it are no longer available (because people stop supporting download links).

My Samsung Galaxy S2, i9100, International version is now almost 8 years old and the old girl is still going strong thanks to the custom ROM, Lineage, on Android 7.1.2, (Nougat), which is still updated monthly.

All original parts except for the battery which I replaced 3 years ago. Even if I say so... she's in very good nick for her age.

OK, with only 1GB of RAM, (in those days, 1GB of RAM was pretty cool. Now I'm on 8/10GB RAM), she is a tad sluggish but is still able to run all my apps. Makes a good backup phone.
