Are you kidding? The 32gb is exclusive to motomaker only, cant even get that in an AT&T store. It is ridiculous to exclude extra storage.
 
FYI...
my local Sam's Club (Walmart's competition to CostCo) has the MotoX 16GB on ATT contract for $188.88. I didn't see it at my local Walmarts yet.

and if it's like Walmart, the tax is charged based on the sale price, not the Retail price of $599.

I recall the other "pre-release" thread mentioned that the X might be coming to retail stores by end of month... just confirming now :D
 
My store finally got the Moto X in! I got to pick it up and play with it. It's a very nice phone! But you know what?

I'm swayed away. After the launch of the Galaxy Note 3, it seems to do more of what I need and want my phone to do.

I multitask and I need a phone that keeps up with me. The Dynamic Notifications app in Play will do what Active Notifications does... but then, Note 3 comes with S-window. I might not even need it.

Other than "OK Google Now", the Note 3 does what I need a phone to do. Plus it will be available for pre-order tomorrow. I may have to wait until November to get the X I need.

Or you may consider G2 again. Verizon is launching it a week from now. G2 seems to have killer camera, screen according to reviews.

I'm surprised that VZW is getting on board with G2, Note 3 so quickly this time. I think all three (X, G2, Note 3) are great devices with different pros/cons. I will try each of them myself before deciding on one.
 
I watched the G2 launch... sadly :p

No, it DOES have killer specs: but the user experience just isn't there for me. I'm not going to listen to the Vienna Boys Choir wake me up or tell me someone's calling; and the other features are just... meh.

X is a close second: it's actually SMALLER than the Galaxy Nexus and has a great user experience. But that's where it ends. It's not a "power player" as much as it is a highly usable phone for the average user... which is what Motorola and Google designed it to be.

The Note 3, however, packs a 5.7" full HD screen into the same chassis as the Note II - which was big in hand but not too big. I'm not big on the whole home button and capacitive buttons, but I have to compromise somewhere. After watching the launch and what it's capable of, I just get the feeling that it's the phone for ME; that I would be missing key functionality if I waited for the X.

So I think I'm going to have to bid you folks adieu, and I sincerely hope you all enjoy the phone of YOUR dreams, the Moto X.

The Note 3 does look like a killer phone. Going to try the X for awhile. I might be joining you with the Note 3 in October.

Nothing at my local Walmarts (yet). But today, Sam's club dropped price to $174.88 :p

So after all the hype every one is on the note 3 well I'm still sitting here waiting for October 1st for my upgrade and will be going to pick up my moto x... No one talking bad about it relies that the HTC one has 1 processor to do everything's where moto has 3 or 4 haha kinda had a brain fart but its pretty much set up on team effort and it is on this phone I've seen it used it it's a calm nice phone 199$ blows but hey I'll have 14 days to bring it back if all the processors go berserk haha
 
For me the Moto X is the ideal size. The 4.7" screen doesn't make it as large as a Nokia Lumia 928 with only a 4.5" screen, thanks to the almost nonexistent bezel. Big screen on a not-too-big phone. Sweet spot!!

Once Verizon has the MotoMaker option and I can choose a 32GB model there are a couple of color combos I have to choose between. But I'm IN!!
 
Motomaker is nice to be sure. I wish there were more options but what you get is "good enough" for now. My order is in, kinda boring white front, woven black back, blue trim .... but 32GB for sure and free Moto Skip. Now the hard part .... WAITING FOR IT. Supposed to be here Monday the 30th. I would have totally gotten the black or white at an outlet if they had the 32 GB version... I HATE BEING PATIENT!
 
I got the developer edition for Verizon. I ordered it around 3:30 last Wednesday, they probably processed it on Thursday really. According to FedEx they picked it up Monday. It just seemed like forever, but there was a weekend in there too.
 
I wonder if this phone will develop a small cult following.

Each time I see someone go for the specs for a HTC One or S4 or now the G2 all I can think is "they just don't know what they're missing."

I guess the same can be said from any perspective though. But I consider myself a power user. Not really hardcore gamer or streaming video, (some music though) but I tether and do dev work on my phone so I'm running it nonstop. Occasionally use maps. Loving the voice activation feature. Take pictures of random things. Have like 6 email accounts, G+, Galendar is the only thing that keeps me organized, and god knows what else. I am constantly using the browser too. But the dev work really puts a drain on the phone, installing and uninstalling the same app over and over 20 times a day.

I respectfully disagree. I recently helped a freind switch to a moto X from her DINC 2. And VZW had managed to trick her into entering like 80% of her contacts under VZ's account so she had to use "backup assistant" and there was no way to export them to Google, nor could she see them in Gmail.

It basically took control of her contacts to use as leverage to make leaving VZW harder.

I've also seen them making many more of their apps system and thus the disable option is greyed out (like some NFL app? Why is that a system app?). Their City ID thing used to show popups once upon a time too.

I'm sure I could think of other ways. There is a level of added software I am OK with, but VZW installs is almost hostile bloatware.

I'm not sure about ATT/Sprint/TMO though. I would guess there are similarities.


The thing that really bothers me was the whole Google Wallet V Isis fiasco. I dont understand why the carriers were not investigated for anti-trust violations for that. Certainly Verizon should be. Especially with their C-block restrictions.

I am quite certain I have never opened a single one of these "vital applications" the entire time I have had this phone. It's another opportunity for the carrier to make money off of the general masses - things like the ATT Family map is free for a month then the charges start. Just like Grandpa used to say "THAT'S HOW THEY GET YA!"

I personally think it should be outlawed. IF they are going to subsidize the cost of my phone by locking me into a contract and charging me more for service because of it, it should be my device and my option to add pay services or not. It's crazy. But especially in the case of a 16 GB or worse 8 GB phone with no SD card they are taking up the space I could use on things I want with 9 (NINE TIMES) apps I don't care about.

My brother suddenly lost all his contacts and when I tried to walk him through how to retrieve them, it was realized they were ALL on Verizon's Backup Asst!!! He is an attorney and lost several important numbers. Needless to say, he was pissed. Verizon had no excuse and no remedy. I told him to change his Contacts default Google, so they are always there for him, but who's to say Google will never have this happen? :rolleyes:

Anyway, I was able to move my contact from VZ to Google a while back. I logged into my online VZ account, downloaded them to an excel file and imported them to my Google account. On my phone, I have my contacts displayed as a custom setting, with "Imported Contacts" as one of the checkmarks. It's cumbersome, but it works and it's only a one time thing.

Yeah I periodically export my contacts from Google (as CSV) and actually have a local sync via a Thunderbird extension.

Listables could do this too but it gets dogged down on anything over 300-500 (though I only have like 100)

Thanks though, that's good to know VZW has some way to export on their website. I didn't even expect them to, since there was no option in the app.
 
II work 95% of the time from my office and Windows 7 workstation. I never add a contact on my phone. I always add contacts on Outlook on Windows. Once a week I create a .csv file and import it to Google. Google then syncs it with my phone.

Its business. The master copy is under my control. If the phone is stolen I can do a remote Factory Data Reset and have lost no important contacts.

I haven't used Verizon's Backup Assistant since the days before my first smartphone (so, December 2007), but my son was using them. As I recall, there is an export to CSV (at least) on the web site.

(Actually, I just created some dummy contacts on my account. There is an option to export contacts to a CSV that GMail can read and import.)

The NFL Mobile app on the Droid Maxx can be disabled. I am sure that the same is true on the Moto X, if it is on there.

In Google contacts (on a PC browser), click on the "More" button, then restore contacts.

Google keeps 30 days worth of contacts stored to be restored at any time.

(One of many reasons why I use Google contacts rather than Verizon Backup Assistant myself.)
