Why all the Nexus S hate??

Some people hate everything that's not in their pocket.... Some drink the Jobs Kool Aid.... Some are jealous.....

Plenty of reasons... Personally, I love mine....

The general sentiment I perceive is that it's not an aluminum bodied HTC with tegra 2 chipset. I certainly don't hate the device, but little touches like no notification LED and no removable SD card slot, and then the glaring omission of HSPA+ make me hesitant to invest in one. Of course any current gen phone would run circles around my current device.

Why does everyone hate this phone? It's a MAJOR upgrade from the last Nexus and is sporting all the latest specs. Whats the issue?

I wouldn't call it a MAJOR upgrade. Compared to the N1, the biggest improvement is just the GPU, which is about 2-3 times faster. Other than that, not much else has changed. If you're coming from an N1, there really isn't a whole lot of appeal to the Nexus S, and you may want to consider waiting for something better to hit the market.

Now, coming from basically ANY other Android phone, the NS is an excellent upgrade. It all comes down to Google's direct support, which more than makes up for its shortcomings.

That's silly no phones are running the Tegra 2 and from the looks of it wont hit the US until next summer but yeah I can understand the other stuff

I own a Nexus One and trust me it's a good phone but it has many issues. From the capacitive buttons to the proximity sensors to the unstable wifi it's far from great. A better processor, better screen, little things that actually work, FFC and gingerbread sounds really appealing but hey maybe its just me. *shrugs*

4 inch super amoled, Better battery life, front facing camera, faster better cpu, better gpu, touch screen blows it out of the water, buttons work properly. I own a N1 and love it but the Nexus S is superior in every way except its not made of metal.

ok its not hate for the phone, its just disappointment. Its a fricken captivate with a front camera and gingerbread.

Anything else?
Oh wait the captivate has an SD slot.

Heres what I think of when I hear NEXUS

A flagship phone thats used to lead the way in current/next gen droid phones. It gets updates and software upgrades at a rapid pace and people expect it to lead the way, not come out of the box already on a current level with existing phones and missing features that phones already floating about come standard with.

Not to mention the missing att 3g band which makes the phone almost useless to a large portion of the market place.

Theres no reason really to buy the unbranded version for 500$ when i can wait a month buy a used tmob one for 200$ less than the unbraded version unlock it in about oh 30 seconds and use it on att....oh yea minus the 3g...

phones a major disappointment. Not to mention....my buddies mytouch 4....smokes this thing on the tmob network.

I think most people who have that "outlook" of a nexus branded phone never actually owned one. Let me speak from experience the only thing the nexus had over current gen phones was pure Google (aside from that the phone was a very well built unstable device).

i owned a nexus one for 8 months before i got my captivate. The nexus one if i hadnt gotten annoyed by the proximity sensor and button issues was pretty much perfect. The metal casing, the speed, the updates, the software functionality, the phone was built to be used and handled. This new nexus is a flimsy piece of plastic trash.

issues
gps
hspa+
heating
no att 3g
no sd card slot

freezing issues...the demo in my hand froze...

its seriously an SGS minus options plus 2.3

it pisses me off samsung neglected current phones to make this thing and then actually didnt include atts 3g band in the build for us stuck with the captivate to even switch to this PITA.

Samsung a mobile device failure. Promises after more unfulfilled promises from them.

Bring on the lg optimus x2 please.

So i take it you own the Nexus S to list all of those issues correct? It sounds as if you are listing issues you have with your Captivate and trying to pass them off on the Nexus just because both are made by Samsung. Of course a demo device will freeze those phones are played with all day everyday. HSPA+ is a joke and spotty just like every other "4G" offering from carriers in the US. So really why build a phone around mediocre coverage? Have fun waiting for a phone that you don't even know will come to the states and a technology that at best won't hit US shores for another 6 months. Good luck with that.

I think most of the people complaining don't have the Nwxus S.... Some did nothing more than spend a few minutes with a demo...... LOL

The demos are going to be cruddy, laggy and will crash. I looked at a demo this evening and everything was up and running on that phone. Its being touched and played with all day. People mess with it and dont know how to kill apps, etc.

I understand the disappointment. We all hoped the new Nexus would be loaded with some ground breaking goodies.

The bottom line is I have both the Nexus One and the Nexus S. The former is sitting turned off at my desk at work. The latter is in my hand.

its not a matter of having the nexus S in hand, i already have that(a Captivate), look at the specs of the phone, tell me the hard ware of that phone DIFFERS SIGNIFICANTLY FROM THE SGS MODELS, please. OH pretty please show me significant differences.

He asked why all the hate..Im telling him reasons from my stand point. The phones was not a SIGNIFICANT upgrade from their current models.

Well, I've had mine for two days now, I've loaded tons of Apps, I've worked it for hours and hours, ran the GPS many times, WiFi tethered, games... The phone works perfect. Not one problem, except I'm running the battery down a lot. Got to carry a charger for sure. I've got 14 days to return it with the Tmo contract.. I don't think it's going back to BB.....
It's not "the perfect phone" for everyone but its works great. BTW, what is the perfect phone for $199?? Really

That's a fair statement 199$ ya have a point.

The fact that you think you have a Nexus (when in reality you have a Captivate) speaks volumes. I could accept your standpoint more if it was actually from a users perspective and not some rant because you hate your phone. Regardless of what's on paper in terms of specs, in real life testing it's been proven the Nexus S doesn't suffer from the same issues as the Galaxy S line. I mean if I had a Captivate and a newer identical phone from Samsung came out with Gingerbread that actually WORKED i'd be upset too. Nevertheless I appreciate your input.

I'm going to chime in a second...
I do not suspect a lot of Hate, but more of a let down feeling from a lot of people. The reasoning is fairly simple, there are things missing on this phone that other current, supposedly lower end phones have. 2 key things would be the SD card slot, and the addition of 4G on the Tmo network. And there is also a group of people out there that are just not fans of Samsung for various reasons, mainly due to the fact of the build quality not being as good as the previous Nexus, which was built by HTC. I for one am not impressed at all with the Nexus S, I think Google dropped the ball on this one. When I say drop the ball, I mean they could have done much more to make this a sure bet top of the line device, yes even at $199. How can you justify leaving out some key elements that even a standard Galaxy S line phone has on board, one being an SD card slot, another being 720p video recording? I'm a Fascinate owner, and I for one do not have any love for Samsung at this moment. They left us out in the cold without a GPS fix, and no updates towards Froyo. For me looking in, I just see a Galaxy S line phone with a front camera, a curved screen, and Gingerbread...sorry but that is not enough to justify this phone owning the name Nexus. With CES so close, and so many phones with better specs, and newer technology on various carriers, hitting the scene in early 2011, its hard to sell me on the fact of the Nexus 2 being anything more then a Galaxy S phone with 2.3!

Apparently The reason for no 4g antennas is because it is a phone that is meant to operate globally ie unlocked meaning not just here in the u.s.... if they were to have included a tmo 4g band they might as well have given it att 3g bands and I don't really know how big 4g is abroad if at all.

As for the vapor Guy who is claiming that his touchwiz captivate is a nexus s. Its not.

The nexus s has an upgraded GPS chip

Its stock android

Has led camera flash

Front facing camera

No carrier blowtware

Hotspot tethering wifi calling (all the stock android goodies)

16 gB of internal memory

And biggest difference of all THE NEXUS S IS SUPORTED AND BACKED BY GOOGLE
unlike your captivate which isn't even really supported by Samsung

As far as HD video I'm sure someone (cyanogen) will unlock it once they build cyanogen 7 for this bad boy

The captivate is a cool phone but if you want to talk about steps backwards take a look at your non existent led flash. FAIL

The nexus s and nexus 1 are the android Dec phones meaning theoretically there shouldn't be a single app that you should find that wont work with them. Go into the market and start scanning the comments sections on apps and you will find thousands of examples of applications not working with touchwiz, sense , blur, or other phones in general.

Nexus is android.

DUAL CORE ANDROID PHONES WILL NOT BE RELEVANT UNTILL GOOGLE COMES OUT WITH A DUAL CORE NEXUS PHONE.... a year from now. till then the nexus s or nexus one will more than suffice

That seriously is something the people who don't own one should ne doing....

I don't own one...Best Buy is making it impossible for me to get one. I went to my nearest store, and they had 10 in stock that sold out immediately. They have yet to get another order in. I tried ordering it online, and their damn system isn't working (also it's trying to charge me an extra $30/mo even though I already have a data plan). So then I tried calling in the order, and every time the automated phone system transfers me to a sales associate, it just hangs up on me...

Addressing a few of your points, Some which are valid.

Touchwiz...Samsungs crap interface. Non existant when using a rom.

An upgraded gps chip...thats already being reported with the same issues as the prior S line.

Stock android achievable on the capt.

LED Flash camera pretty standard on ALL phones being put out now, nothing limited only to this model, again not a wow factor.

Front facing camera, same as above

No carrier bloatware, neither does my capt.

Hotspot tethering. Actually so does my Captivate. Its called Wifi Tether and I use it constantly ;)

16gb internal storage, so they made an iphone, biggest reason not to buy this phone right there thats not a PRO its a CON! Please dont ever list this as a perk of this phone. No expandable storage is a huge flaw.

And biggest difference of all THE NEXUS S IS SUPORTED AND BACKED BY GOOGLE

This is the one valid thing...however they are still relying on TMOB to push through those updates OR samsungs KIES which is ASS to do it.

So not to great.
