Help Why are "Android System" and "Kernel (Android OS)" eating my battery?

Maybe it's my imagination, but it seems lately my phone has just been chewing through battery. I checked the GSAM Battery Monitor after letting it sit overnight and Android System and Kernel were the two biggest offenders. Anyone know why they're eating all my juice, and if there's anything I can do about it?

I'm thinking pretty hard about a factory reset, but that can be such a hastle....especially getting my podcasts back in sync,

Possibly an app calling them to run. Worth it to factory reset the phone, IMO.

Or delete and reinstall all your apps.

Something has to be the #1/#2 consumer of battery.
My advice to just about anyone regarding battery is this:
If you're making it through the day w/o re-charging,there's not a problem.
Enjoy your phone & stop worrying about %'s & statistics.

The only reason I bring it up is that it seems to me something has changed, but maybe it's just a usage thing. I am real tempted to the reset just for grins. The only thing that makes me balk is the hassle of getting all my podcasts back to where all my unread stuff is available and the other gone.

Perhaps some recent updates to user-installed apps included improvements in battery usage & as a result, bumped Android System & kernel to the no. 1&2 spots for battery usage.

If battery life is roughly the same or,better,I'd just let things be.
Trust me,I get it,decent battery life is essential.Without it,the rest is moot.
Things have improved in the last 2 yrs or so,still room for improvement,as in all things.
But,seems one would be hard-pressed to buy a recent mid-to-flagship level phone & not get at least a days use before recharging.

What I mean is my battery life seems to have been shortened. I don't monitor the battery unless something seems out of whack.

Here is an example. When I went to bed last night, my phone was fully charged. Overnight with no use, it lost almost 30%. In the past I know it would be less than 10. It could be my battery is going bad but I'm wondering if a rest might help.
