Why are Apple's apps better than Androids?

Ok so I recently made the switch from my old iphone 3gs to an android (galaxy S II skyrocket). I might be switching back. It's true that android has most of the same apps as apple but every one that I've downloaded and used so far is months or even a year behind apple as far as updates go. This is unbelievable to me. For example, with the sirius iphone app, it will store up to 5 hours of memory so I can listen to past shows and music, among other aspects that work way better in the iphone. The android phone plays music and that

There are pros and cons to having an open system like Android. There is the potential for choice, cost savings and flexibility but at the same time there is a problem of getting everything to work properly with the multitude of different phone manufacturers. To assume that every update of Android software can be applied to individual phone hardware is a mistake. I have an LG phone which shipped with 2.1 last year. There has been many calls for updates. In about October, LG provided a 2.3 update. It has been a real mess and LG has pulled the update after about 2 months. I am back to running 2.1 after getting a warranty exchange phone. The rooting community has been trying to update the phone with mixed success. Apple has a closed system and has the advantage of engineering its hardware and software (including updates) to work together efficiently.

I like to compare Android/Apple to Miata/Porsche. I own a Miata. Miatas are cheaper and they sell so many that the Miata is in the Guinness book of records for the best selling sports car of all time. Porsche is more expensive and has more performance out of the box. Miata owners like to brag that if you modify a Miata with forced induction by adding a supercharger or turbocharger, rebuild the internals of the engine, upgrade the suspension, exhaust and tires, add frame stiffening, etc., you would have a car which could beat a Porsche. Well, the same can be said for an Android.

Welcome to Android. Sorry to hear about your problems. I can’t say if Apple apps are more up to date then Android apps. But what I do know is, since apple has only one OS and about 5 smartphones, they can easily update apps faster and without a lot of problems. On Android you have so many different model smartphones from different manufactures. There are a lot of Android OS’s out there because new phones are coming out in mass quantities every year. (Can’t say that for Apple.) Most of the older Android phones can’t run current OS without running into problems. If you look at your “My Apps” list and when you see updates, its mostly to fix problems that users have experienced and complained to the developer about. (Some are to make the app better as well.) Since there are so many OS’s and model phones for that one app, developers have to work hard trying to keep the app updated, plus when they fix one problem on one phone, it could cause a problem on another phone. As far as Apple apps having some functions that Android Apps don’t, I’m sure this is possible. But do your homework and ask us here in the forums for help with that feature or ask the developer. (Sometimes the feature is there, just have to go about doing it in a different way.)
