Help Why are full screen wallpapers cropped?

Working with ICS now for a couple of days and agree with most said. Clearly faster and smoother but still don't like or understand why those annoying crop boxes limit full screen wallpaper saves. The OS should be smart enough to scale the full image if desired. BTW mine is US, purchased in October of 11.

I don't see what's so hard to understand. The wallpapers scroll as you move between homescreens. And because of how the scrolling works, you never see those corners that get "cropped."

Maybe you didn't understand... You have a picture on the screen, fits just fine. When you go to set it as wallpaper, you have no choice but to crop. Simple question, no need to get your shorts tied in a knot. :-)

You have to crop because the picture scrolls when you swipe between homescreens. If it fit the screen perfectly when you were on your middle homescreen, it wouldn't be able to scroll. Also, the picture wouldn't be able to auto-rotate, because it has different length and width dimensions. The image would be sideways when you changed orientations. Maybe they should make it an option to have a non-scrolling non-auto-rotate wallpaper (which third-party launchers like Launcher Pro do), but that's the reasoning for it.

Cropping, from my understanding is just to make save part of the image for horizontal orientation and another part for the vertical one. Why can't we conduct both functions separately?

Cropping however, has barely any effect as far as scrolling goes. If I were to download a wallpaper at the perfect aspect ratio for scrolling, I'd still have to crop that wallpaper to take into account the portrait version.

(Or I could be understanding wrong)

I get all that about the home screens and rotation, but I don't ever have a need to rotate the home screen' I'd just like a nice picture to remain a nice picture! :-)

I personally wish they would go back to non scrolling wallpaper and just move the icons over a static background image

If you are looking to not crop your background you can try Walpaper Wizardrii I use it to set my wallpaper and have no issues. For the non-scrolling background you can try a 3rd party launcher, if you are on ICS you should be able to use Nova launcher which does have the no-scroll option, it only works on ICS and I have not heard about tablet use but I would think it should work fine on a tablet ;)

Haha I am already way ahead of ya bro I turned that off as soon as I flashed it lol

Still, ICS should give you the option to "stretch" the image to fit even if that might cause some minor scewing of aspect. I also don't like the current crop method because when you drag the edges of the crop guides they don't always work as intuitively as I would prefer.
