Why can't android "work"?

It seems like all android phones I have owned from the droid to the Evo 3d have always had a few bugs in the operating system.

To name a couple. My Sanyo Zio would turn up the wrong person when making a text. It was not my fat finger, the person was highlighted and pressed, but the wrong text box would turn up.

Now with the EVO 3D I'm having bugs as well.

1. Sometimes when I text, I get "radio interference resource shortage".

Nothing wrong with the towers or where I am at, none of my other phones on the same carrier had this issue.

2. When I use the camera, the camera view will be half the screen for 2 seconds, the the HTC sense will reset itself and relaunch the home screen.

It seems like every android phone I've owned. (6 different models) all have had one kind of bug or two.

I blame this on the developers. I think the work so hard on getting the code out, that their may still be bugs in it.

I have used Windows for over 15 years, and it's never been "buggy".

I've never had either of those problems with my Evo 3D. I used to have Sense crash every so often, but I've since switched to ADW launcher and have been fine. I also use Google Voice for texting and it's rarely ever given me an error, and that was due to poor signal strength.

And you've never had a re-occurring BSoD on Windows? I remember seeing BSoD's on Vista when Microsoft promised us no more BSoD's.

Apps can collide and cause problems, and every operating system has bugs. It's why Windows, OS X, iOS and Linux have updates frequently available. Plus, just like in the desktop work, lemony hardware exists.

No mobile platform is immune to issues for those reasons.

Your best bet is to discuss those individual issues in each of the applicable phone forums and see if other users of those phones have advice that square away those issues.

Ha I was worried that this was going to be a person trying to compare androids to apples.
(oh look how apple's marketing has me brainwashed into assuming the word "works" is mac related.)

I think it is a double edge sword with a system as open as Android is. You have the freedom of having all these roms and alt. interfaces on top of the stock android, but yes compatibly issues will arise from that. I still would rather that than a closed ecosystem where you have less control over the product.

yeah.. i know.. there are bugs in android.

but there are bugs in all software i have used. nothing is perfect.

the bugs that i have ... change as I change: phones, ROMs, kernels, apps.. etc...

but the bugs are small..
and i would just be trading one set of bugs for another set.. if i change to something else

there are just to much good in android.. for me to jump ship.
it just gets better with every update.

And you've never had a re-occurring BSoD on Windows? I remember seeing BSoD's on Vista when Microsoft promised us no more BSoD's.

Honestly, no. The only BSOD that I have ever gotten were.due to hardware failures which is sort of doesn't count as a bug.

As for the OP, could simply be a case of conflicting apps in his setup since it followed him across several devices.

Usually bugs appear after some modification: installing apps, changing settings, maxing out memory, filling of caches, rooting etc etc. I would say more bugs appear after the handset has left the shop!

But then there can be faults. Some people are reluctant to get repair or replacement when they're in warranty, instead opting to start flaming on the net.

Android is newer tech than iphone so yes there is some catching up. No phones are perfect from the first model, that's why we have newer incarnations every year. They expect us to buy & fund the development. I remember the first 1gb SD card in the UK used to cost

although I've never witnessed a BSOD on Win7.

I think Win 7 is extremely stable. I've only ever seen Win 7 BSOD when it was caused by faulty hardware, e.g. duff memory. Can be caused by buggy third party drivers though.

I've seen plenty of XP BSODs, but this is often pirated un-patched Chinese XP, running on crappy cheap or ancient PCs. I'm sure the OS itself is actually stable. Not like the old days of Windows 95.

Few small issues here and there, but nothing major. I love android. I used to have a 3Gs, but ditched that a long time ago and never looked back. As stated above no software is perfect.

Never experienced any of that but then again the only Android phones I've bought are from Samsung.

Your phone could be faulty so try replacement first, or maybe try somebody other than HTC. HTC is just one of many Android manufactures, you can't really blame just Android, HTC did design the phone and customise the software.

Also, Windows has never been buggy? that's funny as hell.

For the record, the iPhone has been on the market a little longer than Android, but Android is not new, and doesn’t have growing issues for stability. An iPhone will lock up and apps will crash at a higher rate than Android, according to one study that we have a thread on in the Lounge.

http://androidforums.com/lounge/494401-android-more-stable-than-ios-phandroid-article.html

As for HTC having a fundamental problem that Samsung doesn’t - not correct. Two people in this thread have the same model HTC as the OP and don't experience the problems listed. It's a matter of record that all phone makers produce lemons from time to time. As it is a matter of record that bad apps can cause issues.

The Windows having bugs thing, like anything else, is obvious.

I don't see this thread going anywhere but downhill from here and the OP has not returned. Anyone disagree with the lock, drop me a line, otherwise I think we're done on this one.
