Root Why can't I install some apps on my rooted Hero?

I'm using Elelinux 6.2 froyo and it won't let me install the Amazon app for instance. It's saying it's not compatible with my phone but you only need 1.6+:confused:
This also happens with one of the Google apps (req 2.0+) ? Any reason why?
