Help why can't i update?

my lg ls660, on virginmobile, 4.4.2 , version ls660zv5. seems unable to download the system update (zv6). it gives an 'insufficient space to download.." msg and says it needs 73MB. i have 299MB free on internal and over 29 gigs free on a class 10 micro-sd card. yet it keeps refusing and with the same error msg. i've tried restarting both with the onscreen controls and removal of the battery, wait, etc. no love. can anyone help? also i 'm new here so please forgive me if this is discussed elsewhere in the forums, i was unable to find it.

299 MB is just not very much. Can you try to free up some more, maybe 1GB free. Try diskusage to see if there might be some big stuff that you can get rid of.

thank you for your timely response and i apologize for taking so long to get back to you. i've dropped every thing i could stand to be without, moved everything that would go onto the sd card, cleared cache and cleared data from a bunch of apps, 299Mb is the most free space i could get, please be patient with my ignorance (i'm not very techy) but why do i need a gig of freespace for a 73meg file? as of yet i haven't been able to get the thing rooted and i'm scared to **** off this pos phone. i've got to keep it limping along til i can afford something better. i'd be very happy if i could just get it up to date. thanks again.

Basically, any computing device, whether it is a PC or a phone needs a certain amount of free space minimum to run. The memory would be used for cache, temp files as an app is running, etc. It is normal behavior for a device to block installations once it reaches that 'allowable free memory' threshold.

If you can delete old text threads and your call log, it might free up some more. These use system memory, which is what the update will require. Internal storage and the microSD card are USER memory, and have no bearing on the system. I hope this helps.

alright guys, i cleared all my txt and call logs, uninstalled every app that didn't come on the phone, cleared all cache and data i could. i now have 501 megs internal. after clearing the call and text logs the little error msg icon went away but this a.m. its back. i am at a loss, idk what else there is to clear-uninstall etc. any body have any ideas? thanx again for your time/help here.

update: after stripping the last of the user-installed apps out of the phone and freeing up 510 megs the update finally downloaded. i will never cheap out on a phone again.
