Why did Google stick with ASUS?

ASUS is garbage. They have horrible QC and service. I went through two different 1st gen N7's. They both had faulty hardware that caused random crashes and reboots. Both tablets were unusable. You had to do a factory wipe every two weeks, or else face reboots that only increase in frequency. Huge pain in the rear end. I finally gave up on the N7. 4.3 didn't help. Because I bought my N7 through a retailer, Google basically says "Eff you, you're on your own", and I have to deal with call centers in India for support.

I do have the LG Nexus 4 phone, and it has been the most rock solid Android device I've owned. It never let's me down. Its lag free, and never crashes. It works as it should.

The thing is, I want a 7 inch tablet to go along with my Nexus 4. Its the perfect size for what I use it for. I also want the vanilla android experience. I hate all of the janky OEM bastardizations of android.

Should I go against my better judgment and buy a gen 2 N7? From what I've read, many of them are suffering from the same crashing and rebooting problem, and more. Or should I go with a device made by a company that actually gives a damn about QC and build quality, like Samsung, but lose out on vanilla android?

Samsung doesn't exactly have a clean record either. There are plenty of people who swear they will never own another after QC issues with the Galaxy Nexus. When it comes to getting a device, you can get a dud no matter which manufacturer makes it. It really is just luck of the draw, and you often hear more complaints than praise when it comes to forums. Just something to keep in mind. :)

Yes, but even in the tech blog community, many reviewers also reported the same issues. ASUS has a bad reputation, and now I know why. The sheer number of reports coming out is just ridiculous. That is bad QC for you.

Listen...a lot of people have had complaints. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY OF THESE ISSUES ON EITHER MODEL. both tablets have turned out to be fantastic pieces of equipment for me. Maybe I'm lucky I don't know. I have both tablets fully operational. No bugs, no problems. Granted my nexus 7 2nd gen blows the previous out of the water its still good ( gave it to my son). Asus is an excellent OEM. I've had more problems with Samsung, lg, and HTC then I have with Asus. I'm sorry you have had faulty hardware/software. I am truly impressed with my 2nd gen nexus 7 truly. I bought mine through GameStop, and have absolutely no complaints. And to be honest I'm the first one to send something back for the slightest flaw. Hope I helped.

I love ASUS stuff. Good value, excellent performance and reliable. Over the years I built dozens of desktops and servers for both business and personal use out of ASUS parts that have run 24/7 for years. Zero failures and some are still going. Bought a new all-in-one PC for my wife's business, ASUS of course, and it is an excellent unit. I'll soon have a N7 and I have no doubt it will be terrific.
