Why did Radio Shack fail?

CBs still sell around these parts; CB Headquarters has been a successful Owensboro business for some time, plus, channel 19 is still full of chat.

That's probably truckers mostly isn't it, especially channel 19. Which was CB's original use. Last time I actually tried a CB rig for myself was about 7-8 years ago, Bristol, UK. It was dead, absolutely nothing on all 80 channels. Contrast that to 1981 or 82 in the UK, it was absolutely full, especially in the cities, and most streets had a least one house with an obvious CB antenna somewhere, like a Thunderpole or something. But it was a lot of children and other idiots, often playing music, constantly keying the mic, and swearing all the time..."bucket mouths" was the CB phrase for them. And then the craze mostly died out by about 83 or 84 in the UK.
When CB was first legalized in the UK, it was FM 40 channels only, 4 watts maximum and they even imposed restrictions on the antenna size, and had to have a CB license from the Post Office. Now in the UK, SSB and AM are legal, more channels are available, there's no restrictions on antenna size, no license is required, things we actually wanted back in the 70s and 80s, now we got them, and almost nobody uses it probably.
At the time in the UK, RC models, like model aircraft weere also on 27MHz, and shared the same FCC AM channels that illegal imported CB rigs were using. They did eventually move RC to a higher frequency, and made it illegal to use 27MHz equipment for controlling a model plane or helicopter.

We can buy CB rigs in China, but I've never actually seen any evidence of anyone using one though. Not sure about the legality of CB here, but I know it can be very difficult to get a radio ham license in the PRC...."B****" callsigns. Most people, organizations and companies who need two-way radio, seem to be using hand-held UHF sets. Not CB.

Dear RadioShack, This Is Why We Adored You.
The time is near to bid farewell to that old security blanket, RadioShack. When the remote control broke, it was there. When we needed a cable or 20, it was there. But soon, it won’t be.
The company is about to file for bankruptcy. Shares of its stock have been suspended from trading. We are forced to acknowledge that the era of personal electronics championed by the franchise stores that sold soldering gear and robots and had a Battery of the Month Club is really and truly over. Of course, we already knew that. When you can have exactly the thing you need over-night delivered to your door, there’s no reason to endure the actual social contact required of going into a store.
