all,
doing some research online regarding used cars. mainly looking at honda and toyota.
automakers are on the crapple iplop band wagon. iplop phones are supported by factory installed bluetooth all day long, but supported android phones are hit and miss. Am i, the only consumer on the face of the earth that wants to drive a honda or toyota that Doesn't use a iplop phone?! GRRR.
just venting im sure there is a work around. just aggravated by the "iphone" craze.

Nope, we're in the same boat. I rip out stock/factory radios and install 3 party stereo w/ Bluetooth capabilities. Those aren't limited to iCrap stuff. It's the only workaround I've come across so far, and I'm an electrician that drives a Honda. Might suck to replace a factory radio but... You'll have what you really want instead. [emoji41]

ok. i am assuming apple is getting tons of money from honda, toyota etc. to make their beloved IPLOP/Icrap stuff work with factory radios. what year honda do you have?

Drives me wild. It's not just in cars but everywhere you look, everyone jumps on the "i" bandwagon. Drives me nuts. My home stereo I bought a few years ago had iPod dock, which suited me anyway as I kept majority of my music on iPod...having 64GB storage just dedicated to my music is a lot more handy than only being able to squeeze 16GB onto phone with apps and pics and everything else. But since I broke the iPod and reverting to just the phone for music I noticed not only does it not have any Bluetooth connection or any sort of dock to plug phone, but not even an aux! Like I will only ever want to use an iPod/phone for music. My car I just use aux cable which is fine, can't be bothered taking out the stock radio without any Bluetooth out and finding the fascias to fit the gap for my after market used in last car (I'm just lazy I think). But whenever I use one of the company cars they all have, as you say Bluetooth for iPod or even a dock under the armrest or something, just for fitting and controlling and hands-freeing just for crApple products. I often rant to my friends who for some reason think anything Apple has been tried, tested and sent from God. Personally I think they are all just sheep and following the herd, I hate how simple, and limiting Apple are...and everyone seems to be blind to how much they are getting pushed into a corner about what they can do after spending hundreds or thousands of pounds on something you should own and be able to do anything you want on it.

Wow, went slightly off topic there, but it really does grind my gears....tl;dr :D

Lmfao, I agree.

I have Focus, but the chap I bought it off went for dual climate control instead of upgraded stereo :( would have liked the pimped out stereo with mod cons, definitely going to on next car...OT again, but I really don't understand the point in the dual climate, like you need the temperature in passenger seat to be 25 and the driver 16...confuses me.

Frankly I think the iPod dock might have left a sour taste in quite a few users mouths, when they changed connectors. Just bought a new iPod, yes you've got to buy a new home stereo or car system as well to match it.

Most interesting thing I ever saw with iPod dock systems was Sony. There were doing their own Walkman series portable media players, which had a dock connector as well, but all the Sony home stereo systems were for Apple iPod and NOT Sony Walkman.

One thing I have noticed, I'm sure what's available and what people use for car audio is regional. I've been in China a few years now, and have been in many cars here, and most people who want to listen to MP3s while they're driving are using USB thumb drives, and not smart-phones or media players. Certainly don't think many are streaming media in their cars here, unless they're rich, because wireless data is metered and not unlimited. Almost every car has a USB port on the system, and not iPod or iPhone docks or whatever.

If one is looking at buying any piece of audio equipment, this is something to consider and may wish to avoid it...

Isn't Android Auto a lot newer than i-whatever or am I missing the point?
EDIT just reread and I was missing the point.
You mean compatibility?
Who knows man.. Who knows....

The OP did say "used cars", on some of those you may well find i-Only systems. May even still find BMWs that have factory fitted old style 30-pin iPod docks in them, and won't even work with a recent iPhone or iPod Classic.

exactly! the processors and ram on board is ridiculous my droid turbo has a way faster processor and more ram for LESS money than a I-plop. i also don't like the I-tunes interface. now, i used apple for 2 years, but i learned my lesson. NEVER again!

13 Lexus likes iStuff, however, I can get flip phone to work through Bluetooth, and it loves my Oppo through bluetooth since the Oppo can do so much more. I won't hook mine up. It would confuse the Vulcan if the damn thing switched phones.

I can play music via Bluetooth and TMO has some free streaming and it works. I have a USB connection in the truck. I rip my own stuff. Nothing is bouncing around. I tested all this stuff when trying to get his phone hooked up.

What is funny - I can't find an iPhone connector anywhere. There's a cigarette lighter receptacle for chargers, and a regular USB charger, but no iPhone connection. The ex-owner had an iPhone and left his phone book, so either there's a connection I can't find or the iPhone used Bluetooth, too.

Probably afraid we'd try to root it.
