Why Do People Dislike These Sunglasses?

Hmmmm
I always find it funny when people say, "oh the cheap ones are just as good"....considering this is the line of work I am in (Eyeglass manufacturing), you're about as wrong as you could ever be. The cheap ones, are cheap for a reason. You go ahead and purchase just as many Foster Grants from wally world, as you would be paying for one pair of decent sunglasses. In fact I can voucher to say, you'd probably spend more money in the long run buying the cheap crap, then you would for a good pair. I like Oakley's, hell I get em for half price or free (every year when my voucher comes in), I also like Maui Jims as well.

When you wear a pair of decent AR coated sunglasses, with a real frame (not that crap at Wally World)...you'll notice the difference.

Actually, I never said cheap. There are glasses out there that are very well made for less than Oakleys. You have to remember, Oakley is paying for a tremendous advertising budget, sponsorships, etc. which do increase sales, but it also increases the cost to the consumer and you are paying a premium for the name.

I have owned Oakleys, Serengettis, Ray Bans, Vuarnets, and probably a few I am forgetting. You can buy OSHA approved safety glasses that have 100% UVA & UVB that are optically correct and pass all ANSI safety standards for a good bit less. Are they as stylish? No, but they get the job done. Similarly there are other manufacturers that put out good products for a reasonable price.

My point is I won't buy glasses (or anything for that matter) for the hipness or coolness of it, I buy things because they work and I won't overpay either. I don't mind paying around $100 for a good pair of glasses, but I refuse to pay $300+ for something that probably costs less than $50 to make. Not trying to start an argument, just explaining my take on this.

Ron White has a great routine on this very subject!:D

I would like Oakleys as well if I was getting them for free or minimal cost.
The fact is, Oakley is an overpriced designer luxury brand. I'm willing to bet their eyewear is made in China for about $10-$20 bucks, and the rest of the high retail price is profit and marketing.

I would hardly call that fugly lump of plastic that the OP posted a 'real frame'.

Actually Oakley's are made in California, they're actually made in the good ol US of A (Nice try though...the company I work for...owns Oakley)...we also own Ray Bans (again made in the good ol US of A)...because I live in the good old US of A and guess where we make most of your sunglasses...yup...here...in the US of A.

Actually those plastic frames are probably a little more durable then say your typical craptastic plastic. I can venture I probably know more about then you will. Thanks for playing.

I can respect that, I wouldn't pay 300+ myself, (hence where my voucher and discount come in)...I would pay $100-$200 though, and why those Osha approved are have the UVA & UVB, they're not technically optically correct. I have to wear those kind of glasses when I am on the floor and there is a major difference when I switch from those to say my Oakley's or my Maui Jims.

And if you don't want plastic frames, Oakley offers frames made from a titanium alloy called X-metal. My sunglasses have lasted for ten years.
