Why do RAZR sales suck?

I know that the RAZR is an amazing device, but it seems counter-intuitive that such an amazing device would also have a tiny following on Android forums, very little press, reportedly poor sales, and no dev interest. Does the Android community see the Nexus as significantly better?

Verizon has established the Droid brand and the original Motorola RAZR is now iconic among phones this past decade.

Not sure at this point if you'll ever see a lot of forum activity for any of the mainstream phones like the RAZR or Rezound unless there are significant quality issues, and there seem to be none beyond the norm for any new phone launch.

The Nexus was originally promised on Verizon years ago and then withdrawn at the last moment. Finally, after other carriers, Verizon finally has an unlocked Google phone.

Forum activity in the case of the big 3 on VZW right now are not indicative of sales or interest in the phone.

You're looking for sales (retained) figures for each model - no one is ever going to make that public.

I suggest instead to be happy with the right phone for you, because that's the only kind of phone there really is.

PS - We do have over 700k members, and while not all log in, our lurker to member ratio floats at a constant 10 to 1 - so, forums do have merit and phone users - us - do influence a lot of other phone buyers.

But we're not here to sell phones, we're just here as users helping users get answers. :)

I have to disagree with the OP here. Since he doesn't provide ANY information to back up his "claim".

FYI Razr was the best selling phone for Amazonwireless over the holidays. I'm sure you knew that right? Do you STILL think the sales suck?

RAZR outselling SG2 AND GNex (why branding matters) | The Verge Forums

There's also PLENTY of activity in the dev dept. There's CMW available, safestrap, etc. Someone has also booted ICS already on it. What more do you want?

As I said there is domestic (usa/verizon) sales and worldwide sales.I have no clue how the phone is doing world wide but clearly the gnexus is not material (Q4 sales) in USA due to late release.
-
I see no data on the two specific phones; there has been annoucements on galaxy s2 sales; which I suspect dominate samsung smart phone sales (though not on verizon).
-
Clearly samsung is doing the best of the big three andriod phone markers (samsung, moto and htc) and moto is doing the worse with regards to profits.
-
However moto has really failed in execution recently. The razr is probably the best smart phone they have had in the past 12 months; while I suspect one could debate that the gnexus is not samsung best offering (between the galaxy s2, galaxy note and gnexus).
-
Anyways the problem is that sales number in usa and worldwide are probably not the same for many reasons.
-
I'm not unhappy with the razr but I am very unhappy with the usa market fragmentation (basically usa cell phone companies are not consumer friendly).

While we will likely never hear the exact sales figures from Verizon for any of their branded Android phone's, we can always use a third party like Amazon Wireless to give us an idea of what sales are looking like. When I go to Amazon Wireless and look at their top selling smartphones, I see the following:

1. Samsung Galaxy SII Epic Touch 4G
2. Motorola Droid Razr
3. Samsung Galaxy Nexus
4. Blackberry Torch 4G (White)
5. HTC Droid Incredible 2

Now this certainly isn't scientific but it gives us a snapshot of what sales have been like for Amazon Wireless recently.
