I've tried installing, uninstalling and reinstalling several different barcode readers, they all show the scanner and i can see the barcode through the camera. I have the sneaking suspicion that it's the fact that my devices camera won't auto focus but I hope not...any help would be nice..

It's the auto focus.
Yes I kinda gathered that from my searches....is there any way to fix it? I mean without rooting or writing some code.

There's none I have seen. Short of some code writing or apk editing, which is beyond my level, I haven't a clue. I use my moto x to scan stuff.
