Why does my bleeping phone use so much battery when im not doing anything.

Maybe because it's bleeping all the time? Bleeping noises use a lot power.

But in all seriousness, there are many threads out there discussing battery life that may help you. The fact that you post something without any information (such as a screen shot of your battery stats, logs from battery monitor apps, usage etc...) pretty much means you aren't looking for help and just want us to know you are getting an iPhone. Which, in that case, please sell the G3 to someone who will appreciated it. We are happy to see you switch teams.
 
The iPhone's not going to be any different. I just had a house full of family and friends with iPhones. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM was huddled around an outlet charging throughout the day.

If you're not in an area with good signal strength and you have a lot of notifications and actions going on, the only answer is a bigger battery. Either by 3rd party or through another phone other than iPhone.

Spend your iMoney all you want, that grass is not greener.
 
Any smartphone is going to chug through the battery, usually in proportion to 1) how much time the screen is on 2) how much the CPU is being used 3) available signal strength (as mentioned above) and 4) the amount of background syncing going on.

If you battery life is unusually bad (not touching the phone, need to charge in 3 or 4 hours), then there is either a rouge app, your battery is wonky or your signal is really awful.

We have two S3's and one iPhone in the house & they have comparable standby times if you count the fact that the S3 with a lot of sync services set up lasts considerably lees time than the other two.

Ok maybe i should clarify my initial position. I like my GS3 a lot but the battery is driving me crazy. I have to charge the phone every 4-5 hours without really using it all that much. Could it be that the battery is defective? Is there a way to find out?

May I suggest that you get the GSam Battery Monitor app, charge your battery up to 100% and let it drain out a couple of times? That will tell you a LOT. I did this at the suggestion of others here and average 13 1/2 hours of battery life while listening to music all day plus a few texts, checking FB and Twitter a couple of times and a phone call or two. Leaving my phone alone and not touching it AT ALL gets me 52 hours on average (I did this twice).

There are a number of battery monitoring apps available that will give you a detailed run-down of what's been eating your battery, although the built in reporting might be all you need when it comes to wakelocks.

Wakelocks are calls that an app makes to the Android system to stay awake and not enter a "deep sleep" mode where the phone is at its most energy efficient. Go to Settings/Battery and press on the graph at the top of the screen so you can see the bars at the bottom that say "screen on" and "Awake". if you see that there are lots of highlighted areas in the Awake bar that don't have corresponding highlighted areas in the Screen On bar, then your phone is being woken up a bunch by some process working in the background. Now go back a screen and scroll down through the apps shown under battery usage to "android OS" & press it & look at the "Stay Awake" time. My phone has been off the charger for almost 6 hours and I've been using it fairly lightly and it has a stay awake time of about 2 1/2 minutes. If you are having wakelock issues, this ratio would be a lot different & you should see a much higher stay awake time.

If you are having a wakelock issue, you'll need one of the 3rd party battery monitor app to really track down the culprit.
