Why does my N7's WIFI SUCK!!!!!

jeresh

Newbie
Really getting frustrated with this thing. I've rooted, un-rooted, rooted again, unrooted again (always on stock ROM) and still, I get into the front of the house (not far from the access point) and I can't get a decent connection to my wifi. I have a 1st gen droid that connects to the wifi from my freakin' garage, for cryin out loud. WTF!

I read something about pressing the upper right corner (if looking at the back) and that having some impact to WiFi signal. Know anybody with a N7 that can come over and see how theirs is? If theirs is better, warranty yours.

Have you had it for long i.e is it still under warranty? My N7's wifi doesn't suck and connects easily to my home (Verizon Fios provided ap) as well as every other wifi ap I've tried to connect to. Range and speed are decent. I have not seen a tremendous amount of wifi connection complaints around here either. It sounds like you may have a unit with issues either with the radio, antenna or connection between. Good luck!

Thanks, guys (or gals, I guess I shouldn't be so assumptive) I've had this for too long to be on warranty . . . a few weeks after it came out (the connection has never been great, but I used to get better range, for sure). Anyhoo, I am going to try a range extender and that will probably help and be good enough.

Thanks, and Go Blackhawks!

Good luck jeresh. Out of all my Android devices, my N7 probably is the best for wifi. My TF Prime is atrocious (as is well known) and even my Gnex isn't all that great. Hopefully you can get it fixed. :)

Like seVer said, I've read accounts here of the case being partially seperated from the front of the unit. I'm guessing the antenna is integrated into the back case, and the separation breaks the connection between the antenna and the main board.

In these instances, users applied pressure to the upper right corner, gently, until a click/pop was heard, indicating they had latched the case parts back together. Users reported immediate increases in signal strength and quality.

There's also a known bug with the Wifi, something to do with the qualcomm device driver.

If you take your N7 out of range or turn off the router before turning off the devices wifi, then the N7 sometimes gets messed up, it'll keep dropping the Wifi after 30 seconds or so.

The only fix is shutdown/restart.

Thanks all and especially to sever and amazingDave . . . the case had become separated (somehow, I guess I dropped it, but don't remember). Anyway, I snapped it back together and PRESTO! -- the best connection of any of my devices . . . (I thought I did this a couple days ago when seVer originally suggested, but I guess not well enough. Re-read today and tried again -- could definitely see the separation today.)

Weird that I never actually lost connectivity, it just got really bad.

This research and fix is why the Internet is great . . . (however, if the Internet wasn't so great I wouldn't have an N7 to begin and thus any of these problems, but you get what I mean.)

THanks again.
