Help Why does my phone get hot sometimes?

Stealthman

Android Enthusiast
Sometimes my phone gets hot and at the same time the battery drains quicker than normal. I can't figure out what is running that is causing it. If I do battery restart then it usually corrects itself.

Any ideas? Not rooted by the way

Some of the causes ...

CPU intensive app.
Display intensive app ... like running a video.
Using it as a mobile hotspot.
Prolonged GPS use ... in an app like My Tracks.

Rogue app.

I'm shocked at how many crap apps people download (no offense meant Stealthman, I mean in general :)). I looked at my buddy's Razr M the other day, and it was full of junk. He was wondering why it slowed down so much recently.... haha *facepalm*

How do you figure out which one it is?

Power off/power on and remain aware. As you start each app give it some time to run. Eventually you will zero in on the culprit.

If an app leaves your screen on and prevents it from turning off it will eventually heat up the screen.

Of suggest downloading and using either betterbatterystats or gsam battery monitor.

If something has gone rogue, they'll zero in on it :)

I've got the regular Maxx, not HD, and I've noticed the same thing with mine. One of the things I've noticed is if I've used the camera and close it it will sometimes warm the phone up. I also think if you're in a fringe signal area and the thing is jumping from 1x to 3g to 4g and all over it'll get warm as the radio hunts and seeks for something to grab on to.
