Root Why does my phone keep bricking?

I've hard bricked my phone twice tonight and I'm wondering why? What makes it brick? Does it mean I need a new phone? I'm trying a clean flash right now, so hopefully that'll make the difference.

If you explain what you did we can probably tell you what went wrong.

Also- what do you mean by "hard" brick?

Is that not a common term? Like "blue-purple screen" brick. I thought it happened while installing Xposed Installer, but I recovered it and got it back how I wanted it, and then tried to boot into recovery so that I could back it up, and it happened again. I recovered it again, but I'm afraid to boot into recovery because I don't have time tonight to fix it if it bricks again.
