Root why does this have to be so damn complicated!

so i just got a galaxy prevail from a friend of mine and like all the other ones it has useless apps that are impossible to delete or move without rooting the phone. but i have been looking everywhere online and on this forum about how to properly root my phone but i keep running into files that no longer exist on mediafire! i don't want to brick my phone but this damn phone is really starting to irritate me since i can't do a simple thing like move certain apps to my sd card or remove apps that are self updating and just taking up memory space and running on otherwise decent phone. everything i find seems to be outdated or the method of rooting seems to be a lil different from another one so it makes me kinda nervous to go for it. i did download (odin multi down loader v4.42) but in the tutorial it says the com box should be yellow which it isn't and to download a file "SPHM820_FE16_ROOT_CWM.zip"
but this file is non existent anywhere anymore and the file FF19_ROOTED.zip which i need to extract from the previous file is also non existent can anyone help me understand?:(

Knows how that felt when I first got this phone in March. Couldn't stand the bloatware, I had to root it quickly and unfortunately I bricked it on the first try, I ended up getting a free replacement but that didn't discourage me from trying again. Rooted successfully :thumbup: I hope and wish you the best of luck.

When using odin and the right files, just about no way to brick the phone. Now people do the wrong things and that will brick a phone, like using rom manager and just picking something that is not for this phone ect....
 
make sure your phone is plugged in your computer lol. if its plugged in correctly (no upside down usb being forced into your pc. that only works for kids :P ) and make sure its in download mode. then open up odin and it should say something like Com 1 or something. and as long as you follow This guide correctly you should be fine. i had no problems just jumping into my prevail and rooting the it the first time. and if you need certain files just pm me i have a good collection from other people helping me out :) or ask someone else to post a working link. nobody bites here :) (i hope..)

Is it in airplane mode? I know some of the Odin images were created while the phone was in airplane mode :)
