why does wifi hotspot use wireless b?

it bugs me that wireless b is the default. any chance to change it to wireless g?

i've used speedtest for the 4g networks and a wireless b doesn't cut it these days.

It's probably set to B as a means of throttling you on tethered connections. Most people wouldn't know to change it to G.

Where are you seeing that it's setting to wireless B? As for speed, I just pulled 25Mbps down/15Mbps up with my N7 tethered through my Spectrum on speedtest.net, which is higher than wireless B should handle. When I run speedtest.net through my phone, I cap out at the same speeds, give or take 1Mbps depending on the test.

For notes: I'm running the latest KitKat build and using the built in CM tethering.

i'm seeing the wireless b in windows' network status window or hovering over it in the 'connect to' window. as well as seeing it labeled as wireless b when using a wifi scanner on my old lg ally. currently running avatarrom 3.1x, has always been wireless b throughout my roms with the lg spectrum (icy fusion, pacman, to name a few)

as far as tethering i've used the built in, foxfi, and wifi tether (the yellow icon one) and haven't seen a lick of difference between them performance wise.

What are your up/down speeds on a tethered device and on your Spec?
