Why doesn't my computer scream?

Hello

I don't have much to compare this to, but I have been wondering why my computer is so quiet, and chill, no matter what I through at her.

My Specs.
AMD 6 Core 3.5 GHz Processor
8GB RAM
ASUS M5A97 Motherboard
NVidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti
Corsair H60 Cooler
+4 other fans
Corsair TX650 PSU

Okay so, start up the computer it sounds normal, hear the fans running, but it's not intense.
I play Skyrim on Ultra settings, with bunch of mods running, Fan's don't kick it up at all, no lag, nothing. Okay I thought.

Now I'm running the computer with a piece of software, the processor right now is running at 98-99% The fans don't kick it up a bit, computer sounds normal as I start it up and play Skyrim. I then check to see if the fan is at least blowing out hot air meaning that something in there is hot, but it's cold air, (Sort of). Certainly like a regular fan.

Okay so I'm no expert, which is why I'm asking, why doesn't my computer even get hot at all? My laptop does, and my other desktop used to. This one, takes everything, with no hassle?
Is this normal?

It will, but the heat is being dissipated efficiently so the fans don't have to work hard. :)

If you want to be sure, use utilities such as CPU-Z and GPU-Z to monitor the temps. I think you'll find that you've simply done a good job with your build. ;)

I'll look into one of those and see how my computer is doing with heat.

A question, if/when my computer gets hot at all, will the fans kick it up automatically, or will I have to do this manually?

The CPU cooler fan(s) should be controlled via PWM on the mainboard, and will ramp up/down as required if set to do so in the BIOS. The GPU controls its fan(s) automatically depending on temp/load, but most can be altered via software from the card manufacturer e.g. EVGA Precision X, MSI Afterburner etc.

Case fans - it depends on how the mainboard controls the fan headers i.e. does it vary the voltage according to temp, or simply supply a constant voltage (perhaps with low/med/high profiles selectable in the BIOS)?

also some of the nice cases used for custom builds will have fan controls built in. My old case that I had, all fans were running at full power when the computer was running. Now with my new case I have a little bit of adjustability using a switch that controls each individual case fan.

Sounds like you have a nice build :) There is a thread for those who enjoy sharing our pride and joys

Thanks.

Been running the computer at full 100% processor, and 100% graphics for about 5 days now; Still the computer is sounding the same, and blowing out cool air.

You're lucky. Myself, I'm running 560 Superclocked and a 3.06Ghz i7 quad-core and it blows out some nasty air sometimes. :( Cooler Master HAF-932 case.

maybe you need more RAM? max out your mobo's ram capacity... what your main data storage device?

if heat ain't the issue then, try clocking up your CPU and GPU. but I think you need an addtional 100W or more for the PSU >=)

I am not sure. I think they are just set to a certain RPM. The fans are always running at 4,700 RPM, or so says the software that I use. To me that's pretty fast for fans, and that may be why they are so loud. But then again, I would rather have a loud machine that doesn't ever get passed 40C no matter how long or hard it works. My board never hits passed something like 30C, and my grapgics are about at 32C the whole time. Talking about full 100% power for 2 weeks straight.

I have 8GB RAM and only about 35% of it is used when I use the computer. I think I have enough... For Now.

Do you think this is a AMD vs Intel thing? Because my dad's computer also is AMD and it NEVER gets hot, and it runs for... Well it's never turned off, and it's basically running at about 80% all the time.

My Intel laptop wow. Can fry eggs on that thing. Or is this a Laptop vs Desktop thing, because desktops have much better airflow.

That is pretty fast; my own CPU fans never go above 1200rpm.

Holy.... you got that thing in a refrigerator or what? I thought mine was overcooled but that's amazing!

With an H60 cooling the processor you should try reducing the fan speeds; I'm assuming the radiator is rear-mounted with a fan blowing out through the backplane. So long as it's doing enough to exhaust the heat then the other case fans only have to keep the airflow moving in the right direction.

I havent been in my BIOS in a while. I think its set to full power. Though I think the software is wrong with the fan speeds. 4700 seems fast to me also.

If you think that's low, my CPU hit -58C today, with a stock air heatsink :proud:

A 30C board seems ok, but Im more interested in the 32 degree graphics... mine easily hit 60-70...
